The best adaption I have ever read. The author basically takes Sonic and the Secret Rings and puts her own spin on it. Highly reccomended.

Anyway, I'm going to throw my Sonic fic out there because why not. I think it's some of the best work I've done. It's set right after Sonic Generations and is basically about Sonic and Blaze hanging out before she has to return her own dimension. It can be read as a bit of a ship fic or just a friendship fic; whichever you want.

Oh wow, a Sonic fanfiction thread. This exists!

Hm. Carefree has always been one of my favorite stories, even though I've never been quite able to put my finger on quite why I love it as much as I do. It's a very short crossover between the game universe and Sonic the Comic; nothing more than the two Sonics having a conversation with each other. It's great.

I'll be talking out aloud for a bit.

Anyway, I want to rewrite it. At first I wanted to just "re-do Lyric and Sonic's gang the way I thought would be good, retell the story with jokes I would find funny and boss battles I would find interesting".

However, that changed. A little headcanon I have is that Sonic Generations was the perfect opportunity for them to do what MK 9 did and reboot the franchise. Why? Because of the ending. Both Robotniks get trapped in a limbo, away from the heroes, and the screen fades out before we see either of them devise a plan of escape.

Oh, but Sonic has Negative Continuity, it was a throwaway gag, don't take it seriously. BUT. BUT. Sonic Generations, despite being an anniversary game with an Excuse Plot, connected to Sonic Colors, by showing Eggman after his defeat in that game. It's not much, but it's something.

I love time travel, I love parallel universes, I love Sliders, Heroes, Fringe, and LOST. So it burns me that rather than use Generations, which had a near-perfect set-up for an AU, they decided to make a "spin-off" instead, and chug on forward. So screw that!

Enter Sonic Boom. Everybody looks different, Sonic's voice and personality are different (well, his voice actor changed after Sonic Unleashed IIRC). Sonic looks a bit younger than before, and the relationship between him, Amy, and Knuckles is a bit different.

You know what I think? This is a timeline where Eggman didn't bring them all together the same way he did in Sonic CD and Sonic & Knuckles. Roadblock. Eggman is clearly present in Sonic Boom. Well, this is FAN FICTION. Hand me some white-out. Bam. Gone.

Here's how it goes: After Sonic Generations (my favorite Sonic game ever), Classic Sonic and Tails return to, say, the end of Sonic 3. The Death Egg crashes, but "Robotnik" is nowhere to be found. LE' GASP.

In this timeline, Eggman no longer exists. Because he's stuck in limbo. And certain fundamentals have been changed, because the Time Eater messed things up - it allowed Classic to fight Metal (and Classic destroyed him with a kick, whereas we know Metal survived, but was damaged from Sonic 4), it allowed Modern to fight Silver (even though there shouldn't be any animosity between them, and Silver's canonicity is a mess anyway), and it had Shadow fight Sonic again (for no reason).

In this timeline, Sonic's personality is a bit more casual (since he hasn't, nor will he be fighting Eggman for years), more laid back. He becomes Classic!Sonic becomes Boom!Sonic. Conveniently enough, he was able to mimic Modern!Sonic's homing attack, making him stronger in his youth.

In this timeline, the Chaos "Emeralds" no longer exist. They are the Chaos "Crystals", a more appropriate, yet less catchy title. They still provide a Super Transformation, but Sonic is entirely unaware of that.

In this timeline, Knuckles isn't the guardian of the Master Emerald anymore. The Master "Emerald" is actually the "Lost Crystal" that Lyric searches for in Shattered Crystal, and to connect those two games, the Shattered Crystal is actually the entirety of the Chaos Crystals. Lyric's machine in Rise of Lyric was actually supposed to "reunite" them into the Lost Crystal, and it was simply poor narrative exposition that kept us in the dark about how Lyric intended to use them.

So in this timeline, the Death Egg crashes, and this causes seismic activity which drastically alters the landscape, creating a world vastly different from the canon games, Sonic Boom's world, with new islands and habitats.

Without Eggman around, the Miracle Planet incident still occurred, but Sonic/Amy don't remember their involvement, or Metal Sonic (who was destroyed by Classic Sonic). The Metal Sonic in this timeline is actually a third Metal Sonic built in secret by Eggman (he did, after all, have at least three Metal Sonics). This Metal Sonic is in the form he was in during Sonic Heroes.

From there, we proceed down the timeline, with Sonic and Tails eventually adopting their bandages, scarf, and goggles respectively, Amy being a bit braver and less obsessed with Sonic due to the Timey-Wimey Ball, and Knuckles being free to roam the planet in his spare time. Along the way, we reintroduce previous Sonic villains/plots in MK 9 style, linking them together one by one, until we eventually reach Lost World and Rise of Lyric.

But Eggman is still in Sonic Boom. I thought the point was that both Eggmen were trapped in the white void, and couldn't escape?

Eggman/The Eggmen being trapped in the void is my real stumbling block. Seriously, I got about halfway through that thought process and realized, "Oh wait, but Eggman's in Sonic Boom and Lost World. He must have gotten out."

Let's pretend he didn't, and that due to the timeline being "rearranged", Eggman's non-existence causes a number of problems since he A) can't have invented most of the contraptions and plots Sonic and the gang face, and B) Because of this, Sonic's memories are addled by the visage of a person who no longer exists.

However, Sonic isn't really Sonic without Eggman in some capacity. They're arch-enemies. I figure, Sonic Boom already tried to do its own thing with Lyric, so maybe this could be a jaunt from the beaten path. A story where Sonic's gang must deal with the machinations left behind by Robotnik (Metal Sonic, crashed Death Egg, rampaging robot army, etc.), but the doctor himself is out.

Or, I could reintroduce Eggman Nega at some point. Since he's either: from a different dimension, or Eggman's descendant (and let's face it, there was some mad science involved here, that or Nega is a distant nephew of Eggman's - it was never specified how or where Nega was on Robotnik's family tree. I was also thinking Eggman might have just cloned himself, but he seems more interested in robotics than biology, so that one's iffy.

Three options:

• Keep Eggman, destroy the AU premise of my fic by simply rewriting him.
• Get rid of Eggman, pretend he suffered Author Existence Failure, and focus on Sonic dealing with his creations.
• Get rid of Eggman, but introduce a clone (like the Archie comics), or Eggman Nega (which would work).

I've gotten to the "write out ideas and format them into episodes/chapters".

I really liked the "Mama Robotnik" episode from AOSTH, it was cute, and it gave Robotnik a family. I ask, shouldn't Eggman have some kind of family, or would that be a little too campy?

My idea was to reintroduce Mama Robotnik in the Boom universe. She would still use the name "Robotnik", chastising her son for coming up with the nickname "Eggman". But their relationship is actually genuine, and Mama Robotnik decides to help her son antagonize/defeat Sonic "once and for all". Mama Robotnik wouldn't be "Eggman in a dress", she's a heavy set ginger, but she's similar to her son mainly in that they both want to conquer the world, only that Eggman chose a different way to go about it.

Not only Mama Robotnik, but what about Eggman's father? The games showed "Gerald Robotnik", but that was his grandfather. What would Eggman's father be like?

Separate: I'm seeing people refer to Tails as a "kit/kitsune" now. I find this annoying.

Well, a kitsune is a mythical Japanese fox (or so Naruto tells me).

I kind of want to see a fic where Classic, Modern, and Boom Sonic all meet, in a Special Stage or something. Though, Boom didn't have special zones. I've seen a few deviant Art pictures of all three together, but nothing all that interesting, no fan comics, no plot.

Well, in Japanese, 狐 (kitsune) just means "fox" so they're technically not wrong. As for what Soble was saying, in Japanese mythology, kitsune (at least some of them) were believed to be servants of Inari, a Shinto kami. Specifically, kitsune were thought to be Inari's messengers. The number of tails a kitsune had was supposed to be dependent on their age, wisdom, and power. Later on, during the Edo period, they also gained the reputation "witch animals"- goblins who could not be trusted. As for the Kyuubi no Kitsune from Naruto, he isn't really based on your average depiction of a kitsune, I don't think. While nothing about him is wrong- especially not with the way mythologies worked, using him as a baseline would likely lead to some potentially erroneous conclusions.

So while calling Tails a kitsune certainly isn't wrong, it is a case of Gratuitous Japanese and, even as a Japanese student, that's definitely something to roll your eyes at.

In case you couldn't tell, I also really love the mythological kitsune.

Tails of the Old Republic

It's a crossover between Sonic the Hedgehog and Knights of the Old Republic by Pyre Vulpimorph.

In summary, an older version of Tails somehow lands in Knights of the Old Republic and stars as the Player Character. And it's freaking amazing. While Tails starts out admittedly overpowered in the beginning, Pyre does an excellent job weaving Tails into the narrative, and pays an amazing attention to detail. Tails' natural powers and talents get a good examination, and how well they fit in the Galaxy Far Far Away.

Oh hey, SW:TotOR got mentioned. Yay!

I take a *bit* of issue with the statement that Tails starts out "overpowered". Now, granted, he's stronger on Taris than the Player Character would be, but that's because Tails is a Sonic character with established skills and powers, not a blank slate. And despite his advantages, Tails gets his fuzzy butt handed to him in Chapter 004 by the Dark Jedi aboard the Endar Spire, and again in the Undercity.

You probably didn't mean it that way, Amanda, but I just didn't want anyone getting the impression that Tails was a Gary Stu in this crossover. Part of the reason I picked Tails (besides being a major Tails fan) was so that his powers are much more limited compared to Sonic, Shadow, or Silver.

I'm posting a fanfic every week, like it, love it. Love it.

The Conquest of Westside Island. Shadow and Rouge meet for the first time on South Island and become... well, not best buds, but willing to co-exist (no apparent sexual tension either, if that's your thing). In this world, there are six chaos emeralds, and a rumor of a 7th, which Rouge believes is hidden away in the... Hidden Palace Zone.

And so a partnership begins, with both after the emerald.

Cozily-written (not an actual phrase) and a sweet homage to Sonic 2.

You should link to my Sonic fic cause I've never gotten any serious feedback on that.

I personally like the Tails oriented fanfics like Tails Of The Old Republic, Anthem of the Dying Day (I was so sad when that fanfic got discontinued although I could understand why as it got so big that you literally could tell that the author was crushing herself with that lengthy fanfic), and a few others (The Blox is one of the very few people that can write decent to good Cosmo/Tails fanfics).

There is one guy/gal out there that writes AU fanfics with Tails and Fiona, and there there's a few gems here and there on fanfiction.net.

Hell if I could find another good crossover fic with him as the main protagonist then I am all good. The only thing I got close to that was a fanfic were Sonic ended up dying via a accident in a battle with Eggman witch him which required Tails to follow in his foot steps. That one was a crossover with MLP:Fi M (take a wild guess who Tails meets)

A little while ago, I brought up 'Sonic Generations and Knuckles' as a joke. Well now, I'm writing a fic about it. Unfortunately, most of Knuckles' spotlight was in games that I no longer own, excluding Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes.

A Sonic Generations parody about Knuckles and "Classic Knuckles", my idea of Classic Knuckles anyway, comedy-focused, short (because Knuckles hasn't done that much sine Sonic 2006). What I want is other opinions on what some of Knuckles' best, or most memorable stages/levels were.

Knuckles' most memorable moment for me was probably either Aquatic Mine or Death Chamber - I used to be terrified of aquatic levels, particularly AM. Death Chamber, meanwhile, was an incredible pain in the ass, and led inexplicably to King Boom Boo - which makes me wonder if Eggman was aware that his secret base was haunted. That said, the level was a great nod to the Sandopolis zone.

I'm thinking Classic Knuckles would just be shorter, have smaller claws, have his "base appearance", where Modern Knuckles would have the Shovel Claws, the Hammer Gloves, the Air Necklace, and those goggles from Sonic Riders.

Where I'm stuck is whether or not to fuse him with "Boom Knuckles" (make him tall and muscled, because I think its a decent distinction). Make a composite character who represents "Knuckles today"; that, or make Boom Knuckles a separate character entirely - I'm not too keen on writing "Boom Knuckles" though, and I'm not sure if there's more comedic potential with Modern meeting Boom - it gets away from the spirit of Generations somewhat.

Or, there could be a Classic, Modern, and Boom Knuckles. But three's a crowd.

The main conflict would be a rehash of Generations, but with Mecha Sonic instead of Eggman. Lazy? Its a nod to S&K (THE BEST SONIC GAME EVER) with how Knuckles' portion of the game was essentially a reshash of Sonic's, but with Robo-Robotnik and Mecha Sonic). That, and Mecha Sonic is grossly underused in fanfiction, and I've never seen anyone write about Modern Metal Sonic and Classic Mecha Sonic. I used to wonder what would happen had those two met. On that note, although the plot would be a rehash, there's more character interaction to be had, since the story can't be conveyed through high-definition super speed and visuals.

There is also a Mecha Knuckles that did appear in one of the spin-off games (Sonic R I think was his only in-game canon appearance alongside the Tails Doll). You could probably use him
