Our Next Feature Presentation: The Stuff (10/12)

Join Us Saturday, October 12th @ ~8:00PM (US/EDT) Here: http://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

So we watched a movie about Skeletor wandering off the Masters of the Universe movie set and going off on a Predator-inspired murder spree in the woods. I'm assuming that's what the plot was, because the movie never bothered explaining what the hell was going on.

So, tonight, from the director of Tommy, Altered States... and Crimes of Passion (!!!!!!!) comes a British horror film loosely based on a novel by Bram Stoker about the discovery of a strange skull that's believed to belong to a mythical beast... that may not actually be dead.

Anyway, right now we got the power trio of Bob Ross and cRiT1KaL and Mr. Blobby.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we got The Lair of the White Worm.

Here we go: Disney ripping off Disney.

I can't remember off hand exactly when in the 90s this movie was first released, but I'd assume it came out at a point when there were only two Mighty Ducks films out on video at Blockbuster, and Disney or somebody had to fill a gigantic void by plugging the same basic formula into more kids movies about other sports.

So there we have it: The Mighty Ducks, except with soccer... and starring Steve Guttenberg and that one kid from The Sandlot who David Duchovny had to put down with a wooden stake through his chest.

And while we're at it, I recall this film bringing up illegal immigration as a crucial plot twist. Topical.

Well, here's The Big Green...

Giving this new model for a 30-minute pre-show a test run tonight.

First up, we got a new video from Dunkey and a great episode of I'm With Busey where Gary Busey teaches Adam martial arts and self-defense.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, it's "The Little Mighty Bad News Giant Duckbears" ...on a soccer field. Disney's The Big Green.

The new Spider-Man animated movie, honestly, looks really good to me. The animation style looks to me like cel-shading done in a way that actually looks almost convincingly like a stylized comic book come to life, and the story idea looks fun. I'm not a superhero person, but I like how this looks, and I plan to check it out.

I'd like to suggest this, a made-for-tv pseudo-biopic about the artist Francis Bacon, starring Derek Jacobi, Daniel Craig, and Tilda Swinton.

My concern is that this might be too good of a movie to watch here, but the trailer at least seems to be riding a thin line between sleazy camp and emulating the tone of Bacon's paintings. IDK

[up]I would NOT have thought that was made-for-television. Looks so much like any art movie should. In any case, IMDb currently rates it at 6.4, which, by our standards, translates as "unpopular movie that we'd most likely find to be quite good." After enjoying that one Picasso movie a few months back (which we all deemed to be a [awesome][awesome][awesome][awesome]), this one would seem like a great followup. I'd hope more of us would be as interested.

Anyway, tonight's feature presentation needs little introduction...

We all live on the Yellow Submarine, the Yellow Submarine, the Yellow Submarine~ ♫

Before that, in honor of Mega Man 11 being released recently (and the recent news that a live action Mega Man movie is in the works by the director of Catfish and Paranormal Activity), we have some bad Mega Man cartoons - one from the 1990s, one from this year.

Despite the chat going silent for minute-long stretches, it actually got ★★★★ from us. It was a trip, I'll say that. I can see why audiences of the time were said to go to the movie while high.

Oh, Ho-Oh-HOOOOoooooooooooo...

This Kung Fu Friday, we return to the batshit Karate Warrior movie series from the Philippines. By the point, any connection to the first two wonderful movies is left behind while they just do their own thing.

Karate Warrior 3, sadly, isn't available on YouTube in the English, so we're gonna be skipping straight to Karate Warrior 4, which doesn't have a trailer... so that gives us as fine an opportunity to catch up on what we can of Karate Warrior 3. Here's the ending of that movie in what I assume is Italian...

Oh, Ho-Oh-HOOOOOoooooooooooo...

Kicking off Kung Fu Friday with more of Takeshi's Castle.

Then, at the top of the coming hour... we're rewatching Karate Warriors 2 because ALL the remaining Karate Warriors sequels are in Italian, apparently, and we have no backup plan.

Just another one of those movies you find directly uploaded to YouTube by the filmmakers themselves. Who knows what might come of this?

This is supposed to be a story about two twentysomething guys living together in a crummy apartment and scraping by in life through various scams and other dubious means, but when a new landlord suddenly doubles their rent overnight, they gotta resort to something new... like getting real jobs like normal people, or something. Pray for laughs.

So, I don't know if we've seen this one, but it's a real movie about a rogue sentient killer elevator [yes, you read that right] that opens with the lines "The elevator did it. How dumb can you get?". Directed by Dick Maas [heh.], here's Down, or The Shaft:

[up]I thought this was looking eerily similar to a Dutch horror film from 1983 titled The Lift, which we deemed a [awesome][awesome].

(You'll notice a number of very similar camera shots and/or deaths between both of these trailers)

As it turns out, not only does IMDb list The Shaft as a direct remake of this movie... but Dick Maas also directed both of these movies.

This one brings back a lot of memories. Shame I'm still gonna miss it.

In hindsight, it should be easy to see how something like this influenced the Toy Story movies, especially the third movie.

Submitted for your approval, here's The Brave Little Toaster...

Heya, guys, figured I'd join this thread since I drop into the channel often enough. (Plus I need somewhere else to keep up with what's going on since I recently left the Discord channel that I initially got to the channel through.)

Also, why'd you leave the Discord, Kablammin? Glad to see you here subscribed to this thread.

Then, our main feature is The Brave Little Toaster. Some people found certain parts of this movie to be Nightmare Fuel. Will you?
