To steal a mech that can only operated by three people.

You gotta start somewhere.

That ought to be written. I'm just busy writing a crossover conspiracy fic right now. tongue

If anyone's doing that, I'm in favor of keeping the backstory... Most of them at least.

An old idea I had for a Super Robot Wars multicross clusterfuck was that Tabane (From Infinite Stratos) made IS using some technologies from other series. The catch being that the way she put them together was so out there nobody figured it out, at least for a while.

The stuff that she used being:

-Teleportation technology (from Megaman).

-Extradimensional storage technology, as in hammerspace technology (also from Megaman, but making reference to Robotrek, and old SNES game), as a derivative of the above.

-Drift Technology (Pacific Rim). Plus some other mind to machine interface, I think.

The hammerspace tech used for storing and managing IS parts, bring stuff in and out as need (which is a thing in the Megaman comics). The part that peple in universe did not get is that the IS's operating system (which is tied to hardware way too big to carry normally) is all in hammerspace, where it can manage everything safely.

As far as other people knew, in-universe, it's impossible to interact with stuff that's in hammerspace storage, and that's where the Drift tech comes in. Each IS comes with an artifical brain/nervous system that upon activation drifts with the pilot, allowing it to both control the unit according to the pilot's commands and keep track of what's going outside with little to no lag to the flow of information.

Nobody picked up on that because it wasn't known that the Drift can reach across dimensions. At least until Newt (Pacific Rim) got the bright idea of drifting with a Kaiju brain connected to a hivemind in entirely different universe.

There was also a guy who could have figured out all that, the one who developed the hammerspace tech to the point it was man-portable in the first place (Dr. Akihabara, from Robotrek). Except he was pretty busy because Earth was preparing for an alien invasion, people just didn't have the time to deal with Tabane's bullshit.

Other weird ideas to go with that include:

-IS Academy not being in Japan, but on the Moon. Because that's obviously where Tabane came from the one place available to dump test weird technology while people on Earth are making actual giant robots. It's just close enough to the Moon Cradle (SRW Original Generation) that they could ask for help if anything go wrong, and far enough that it wouldn't be a problem if things go really wrong. Rita Repulsa (Power Rangers) might or might not live in the neightborhood.

-The player character from Robotrek, [INSERT NAME HERE] (also Dr. Akihabara's son), being in IS academy as an engineer. This being postgame, him having knowledge of tech from other worlds and stuff.

-Since the IS pilots are getting dragged into the conflict one way or another, people put a little most focus on armor cause their avarage enemies were three stores tall and hit like freight trains. Bacause of that, IS units might or might not end up looking like SD gundams (see post 868679 on danbooru for reference).

-In SRW OG (the GBA one, not the compilation game, or at least in the manga), there's a point where the aliens invade and abduct people en mass, later brainwashing them and making them fight the Earth forces. Most people were loaded in mass produced mook units, while those with outstanding talent were either put in souped up custom units (people abducted in advance or who were on the verge of death) or just put in their mech of choice (people with ties to the main characters to be used against them). Funny though: What if they picked up Chifuyu or one of the girls?

Been a while, but I made major changes to my initial plans for a SRW fic from my last post.

Well I did include some SD Gundam G Generation characters/mechs, but I’m interested in looking for bios of the original characters.

A ceiling light comes on, illuminating a man seated on a stool. Wearing a modestly dapper red tuxedo, his left eye twinkles with pleasant surprise; the right is covered with an eyepatch. "Greetings!"

With a polite bow from his perch, he offers a smile. "I would like to, if you'll allow me, provide for you a brief explanation concerning the origin and history behind this Super Robot War."

The man closes his eye in rumination...

It all began in the recent past, about sixty years ago, when Godzilla first appeared and destroyed the city of Tokyo, Japan. As other giant monsters soon followed in his wake and rampaged across the Earth, people left the Earth to move out into colonies in space.

To avoid a war between the Colony Nations, a competition is held. Every four years, a representative from each nation pilots a machine called a Gundam and takes part in a match. And the pilots fight, and they fight, and they continue fighting! Until the nation represented by the last standing Gundam wins the right to rule all the Colony Nations! These space governments have come up with a war based on the principles of great sportsmanship.

However, one problem still remains: this battle is fought on Earth. That's right — this toxic, battered planet on which we live.

"But this time around," he explains with a solemn expression, "the tournament has been suspended in response to an alien invasion! These mysterious life forms, called the Radam, have occupied Earth's Orbital Ring, preventing the colonies from sending any aid to the planet's surface. From their perch, they've bombarded the planet below with laser attacks and waves of monsters, obliterating cities and covering regions with alien trees.

"In response to the unprecedented crisis facing the Earth," he continues, "Queen Maria of the Jupiter-based Zanscare Empire has declared war, and sent an army of Mobile Suits to the Earth sphere."

As the gentleman gazes forlornly upon the battered Earth, an old woman appears, sitting at a table. Wearing a military dress uniform, her white hair comes down to her shoulders. Taking a sip of tea, her gaze on the narrator is stern but not unkind. "If you're here to brief the new observers, you'll need these."

With that, she passes a few dossiers over to the man, who looks them over with an intrigued expression. "Well now, how might these brave men and women fare in today's battle?"

Today's opponents are spider crabs, Radam monsters that descend on the Earth like a plague!

Casting off his jacket and eyepatch to reveal a fully functional eye beneath it, the man stands tall! "SUPER ROBOT WAR! READY?! GOOOO!!!!"

Opening Narration for one of my SRW fic projects.

Not mentioned above but also included in this setting are Mazinger Z: Infinity, the first two seasons of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, ∀ Gundam, New Story of Aura Battler Dunbine, The Vision of Escaflowne, and the first half of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
