[up][up]That sounds more like a level 2 or 3. Bit too powerful for level 1.

[up]Yep, that's the one. *shudders* But maybe he could just control them like he does in "Plankton". That wasn't so bad, except how SpongeBob rolls his eyes into his head...

Do you think my idea for Sandy's level 3 works? Congrats on 100th post by the way.

The reason I want MVC.type is because Cartoon Network already made a Mascot Fighter.

[up][up]I think it'd work. If her suit can let her easily survive underwater, she could probably survive in the depths of space... until her supplies run out, of course.

My idea was a little different, though; the only detail I could pin down would be the unfortunate foe being trapped under the rocket during its ignition sequence. I think you can figure out what would happen from there.

[up]Why not do both Smash Bros. and traditional 2D fighting game styles?

Yes, I would do both Smash and trad as seperate titles. Smash style has bigger roster of stars like Timmy, Jimmy, and Dudley but Trad has more supporting characters like Toph.

[up][up] & [up] I would do both too. If they were only making one however, I'd prefer the traditional one. I don't really play traditional fighters but Marvel Vs Capcom 3 looks so awesome and I can totally picture many of the Nicktoons fighting in a crazy over-the-top fighter like that.

So does anyone have any stage ideas (for the Mascot Fighter one)?

  • Jellyfish Fields: Jellyfish and Kevin are hazards
  • Petropolis high rise: Odd slopes. Occasionally a villain will.attack, much like Saffron City in the first Super Smash Bros.
  • The Candy Bar: Libby is a hazard. The lollipop will.eventually fall
  • Dimmadome: Doug Dimmadome changes the stadium around often, like Pokemon Stadium
  • Ghost Zone: Ghost attacks, like Petropolis
  • Cat Manor: A Catscratch stage

I had a great one: Air Temple

It would be a combination of Wutai, Gusty Glade and Death Mountain. You would fight on the roofs of pagodas and parts of the temple, there would be a litle courtyard in the middle, and there would be an occasional gust of wind from either side of the screen the makes it easier to move if you go with it, but slower if you go against it.

Another idea I had was the Ghost Zone. There would be floating platforms that may become intangible at a moment's notice, with many objects flying past in the background.

Cool, no?

[up]Your Ghost Zone idea needs an appearance from the Box Ghost.

[up]I haven't actually watched Danny Phantom, so forgive me if I leave out stuff.

For future reference, the only Nicktoons I've seen are Sponge Bob Square Pants, Avatar The Last Airbender, The Fairly Odd Parents, Rugrats, The Wild Thornberrys, Cat Dog, Hey Arnold and The Angry Beavers, and I haven't seen Cat Dog or Hey Arnold in 7 years.

What about you Dragon Geyser? Have you got a stage idea?

Hmmm...

Zim's "house", which could have GIR or some random piece of Irken tech change the layout of the stage at a moment's notice? Chalk Zone, where players could actively (but temporarily) destroy floating platforms on the sides of the stage? Maybe the Thornberry's comvee? (Two ideas for that: outside and fighting on the roof of the vehicle, and inside, where one can only be knocked out bu being hit through the windshield)

To be honest, I wanted to start a thread for a hypothetical Nickelodeon/Cartoon Network Mascot Fighter.

[up]Nothing is stopping you from making one. Go for it!grin

We will discuss potential cross-overs here though, but not just yet; we are still working on the Nickelodeon things.

[up][up]Well, my idea for a The Wild Thornberrys stage would be the Comvee, but it is moving, so you have to fight on the roof and landing on the ground would be hazardous. And sometimes the Mini-Comvee (I forget what it is called) shows up for an extra spot to fight.

Well, I wouldn't really care whether or not the Comvee would be moving or not.

[up]To be honest, I think a non-moving comvee would be boring for a stage; having it move across an African savanha is much more interesting.

As for the enevitable Sponge Bob Square Pants stage, I think it is too hard to make a decent stage based on Bikini Bottom. So I chose a different location: Rock Bottom!

The stage would take place on some elevated ground in the middle of a deep trench. The stage's main hazard would be giant sea monsters. Sometimes a tentacle would appear from either side of the abyss (where fallouts can occur) that will drag a combatant to the murky depths if the poor sap comes into contact with it. Sometimes an item may appear from the ground (instead of spawning above it). If someone grabs it, it is revealed that it is the end of the lure of a sea monster, which will attack the immediate area of where the lure was. Maybe there'd be a more ordinary Sponge Bob stage, but I feel this would make an awesome one.

Thoughts?

Noah 1 Add Disney Channel, The Hub, and PBS to it as well.

I had an idea for Patrick that is another meme reference. You know how in Marvel Vs Capcom 3 when you win the announcer will say "Player 1 wins!" or "Player 2 wins!" instead of saying the character's name? Well, when Patrick wins, the announcer might say "Player 1 wins!", causing Patrick to get angry and say "No, this is Patrick!".

I think it would be clever and funny, except the only problem here is that it breaks the fourth wall, which I dislike. But I suppose that isn't up to me.

[up][up] Sorry I'm so very late, everyone. I've been going through the Nick vs. CN Mascot Fighter idea for a while, now. I don't want one side to overshadow another. Adding Disney Channel would lead to the rest of Disney, which would surely overshadow Nick and CN. I think Disney needs its own Mascot Fighter. PBS Kids is a preschool network, so i doubt it would yield as many fighters. The Hub is fairly young compared to Nick and CN, so it also wouldn't have as many fighters unless we went into the rest of Hasbro, but Nick and CN are already so big, I almost doubt they can share a Mascot Fighter.

Regardless of what Mascot Fighter is made, my plan for it (if it is online) is for it to be Unlimited. It is not aiming for a finished product, but can be freely updated with fighters, stages, items, music tracks, and balancing edits based on the fans' opinions.

[up] Actually, the game will still be 100% dev-managed. The devs will keep track of forums, polls, and Character Tiers to know what is wanted and needed and update the game accordingly. Thus, the fans will get a reasonable influence in things, and the game will still be balanced, polished, and fun.

The problem is that your average casual player's ability to play the game is a terrible way of judging balance. Also, a system like that would be best supported by a subscription fee... which is not popular with fighting games.

[up] My plan for balancing is to judge how balanced it is based on professionally-made tier lists and update the balance as the tier lists come out. Apart from the higher level of connection between the devs and the fans, the two will still be separate entities that operate as fans and devs normally do, so there should be no subscription fees. Besides, not everything will be influenced by the fans. The devs will have control over the project.

The problem is that, once the metagame settles and we know who's good and who's not, pro players usually only use top tiers unless some lower tier character fulfills some niche, and that usually happens in team games. You'd only get reliable data for top tiers.

What I mean about subscription fees is that you implied that patches would come in considerably more often than most fighting games. Patches aren't cheap.

BTW guys, you should totally check the Build a Fighting Game thread. /shameless plug

Balance is a very finicky term. Any game will have it's 7-3 and 8-2 matchups. Does that make it unbalanced?

Also, Smash Flash and Project M, I'd argue, have a (relatively) very low pool of testers. People WILL break a game given enough time.

[up] Well, my updating idea would help with that and keep the fans relatively pleased, but the money issue reared its ugly head. How do fan games like Mushroom Kingdom Fusion and Super Smash Flash manage to support themselves?
