Why would Big Hero 6 be Disney's one chance at tackling a movie set in Japan? I'm sure neither Disney nor Japan is going kaput any time soon.
It's not like there's any shortage of stories to adapt or ideas to have for Disney movies that involve Japan either.
To bring the subject back to Frozen since we're getting off-track, and going back to a previous subject...I'm not sure about Elsa having any sort of love interest. She kinda strikes me as someone who doesn't really need a significant other (male or female) in her life, but that's just me.

"Lucian, don’t be afraid, we’ll make it through this."I don't think she feels like she needs one, but that doesn't preclude WANT-ing one. Also, the original was completely selfcontained so they're going to have to undo SOME plot thread here to make a sequel.
Disney doesn't like repeating itself. A decade or so ago, I read a list of films that were considered to be developed but never were, and often, reasons would be listed next to each title saying things like "because Hercules already did that" or "we already covered the African savana". Of course it's been around 10 years since then, and they're apparently doing theater-level budgeted sequels, so maybe their outlook changed.
Elsa would need some powerful character as love interest should she have one (and no, I don't think she should either). If they go that route anyway, I hope at least they don't do the "bonding with someone with powers who also felt rejected" thing.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.No one really "needs" a love interest, but statistically most people do have one. I could see Elsa having a love interest but I could also see it not happening.
The most I hope for, at this moment, is subtext. Elsa having a full-fledged love interest could work if Anna was married already, but I can't see them working in two romances plus Elsa and Anna's familial relationship well.
Sorry, my sentence was badly phrased. What I meant is that, should Elsa get a love interest, he or she would need to be a strong and interesting character. I don't quite see Elsa hooking up with Generic Disney Prince #14.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.I always kind of thought Elsa ought to be aromantic. I guess that's partly me projecting though (I've started to wonder if I might be aromantic).
Disgusted, but not surprisedI always saw Elsa as being platonic, or is that just me.
In an anime, I'll be the Tsundere Dark Magical Girl who likes purple MY own profile is actually HERE!...with who???
With the male lead guy raised by trolls
New theme music also a boxWell, yeah. There's no polyamory between Kristoff, Elsa, and Anna. Kristoff is purely platonic with Elsa. Heck, I've seen people argue that Elsa doesn't like Kristoff.
I don't know, she did get kristoff to take a shower. *Wink wink*
see my completed Tangled (Varian) fanfic collection! https://archiveofourown.org/works/24467056/chapters/59049532In Olaf's Frozen Adventure, they never did say what the Norweigan cake meant, right? So I wonder if those could be people of Norwegian blood. Norway and Arendelle both exist and are similar, but not identical, nations. Maybe Arendelle was settled by Norwegian immigrants? It's a convoluted explanation, but I can't see Arendelle as literally just that town.
I remember hearing years ago that Idina Menzel said she couldn't play Elphaba in a Wicked movie because she was "getting too old" and couldn't sing the part like she used to. Yet, that was nearly a decade ago and she's doing Elsa. If only Wicked could get an animated film... Frozen has killed the sliver of hope for that.
Well that and the live action Wicked film they did.
New theme music also a boxTherr's no live-action Wicked. It's in Development Hell.
Really?
I could have sworn they'd already released a film based off it
I might be thinking of Oz the Great and Powerful
New theme music also a boxYou know in contrast with twist villain, Hans. I think they will have a more obvious villain this time.
They wont have a villain this time I bet
New theme music also a boxI still think unlike Wreck It Ralph 2 this could do with a villain.
I have seen it pointed out that the line of Disney/Pixar Villains-Who-Seem-Like-Good-People-At-First-But-Are-Actually-Scumbags may have had something to do with John Lasseter. Who was fired after claims of sexual harassment came to light.
Hell, Wreck It Ralph 2 is the first post-Lasseter film and the first without a twist to it's villain.
They do have medals for almost, and they're called silver!I doubt it,more likely they feel obvious villains are a tied trope at this point and want something a little more subtle
New theme music also a boxHowever, since this decade is ending, it might good to go back to form.
Hardly, going right back to what they were doing before seems counter productive

@kyun
In this case, it was a American based comic series. I think if they were doing an actual Japanese setting, they would set it there.
