This thread's for all of the X-Men comics and spin-offs (X-Force, X-Factor, New Mutants etc.), whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate X-Men, X-Men 2099, X-Men "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- X-Men 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Wolverine, Deadpool, Ms. Marvel and Cable.
- Characters and comics that originated in X-Men and its related books but are no longer connected to the franchise are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their X-Men related stories here.
Discussions that are only about X-Men adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).
I have to say that the X Men franchise has been going on for decades. Maybe not as many as the Superman franchise has, but it still has quite a number to it.
One thing I am certain of is that the franchise seems to be subverting Status Quo Is God in recent years. Magneto and Professor Xavier seem to be fading into the background, with Cyclops and Wolverine taking their places. A lot of villains associated to the X-Men have been killed off and have actually stayed dead so far.
All this gives me the general impression that the franchise is trying to reinvent itself. Do you think that's what's going on here?

Surely they could have used any other mutant coming up with the idea of buying media/corps/schools.
A whole series about the resurrection tech? AWESOME!
Wallflower please.
More and more, I am convinced that making Magneto Jewish was a bad idea in hindsight.
He's talking about subverting facsism by eliminating the roots from which it sprouts.
Except for the fact that Magneto is one of the most complex Jewish characters in all of comic book history. I consider that a good thing.
By the way, Leah Williams has revealed on her Twitter that her book will tackle trans mutants who want their resurrected bodies to be a different gender.

Longtime X-Men Writer Fabian Nicieza Sells His First Novel, Suburban Dicks
Pretty cool. I've often seen writers go from books to comics (like Saladin Ahmed, Rainbow Rowell, Seanan McGuire), but I've rarely seen writers go from comics to books. It's happened (Peter David went from television to comics to books, I believe), but I haven't seen it that often.
Neil Gaiman is the best known example of someone starting in comics and then going onto novels (his first comic was 1986, his first prose was in '87 but his first proper book was 1990). I don't think it's that rare of thing, but wouldn't even know how to begin to measure it.
Then we're back to a nation with only three exports. The UN won't give them money, it'll demand it in dues.
Even if they sell it to everyone with dementia, it won't be more than tens of billions of dollars.

Nightcrawler gets a Giant-Sized X-Men issue.
Superstar writer Jonathan Hickman teams with legendary artist Alan Davis (X–MEN, EXCALIBUR, AVENGERS) for an eerie tale of adventure! When the X–Men lose contact with the Greymalkin Habitat, it falls to Nightcrawler to lead a mission into the unknown!
That's going to be an awkward conversation with Xavier.
Still no Wallflower though lmao
They seem to have remembered literally everyone EXCEPT poor Laurie. AWFUL.
Presumably, no one has any particular ideas involving Wallflower. It happens. Unfortunately, she was part of a team that doesn't have the nostalgia base as the New Mutants or Generation X, so she's at a disadvantage for that. We're not getting Academy X reunions, she doesn't have a power that lends itself to exciting stories, she doesn't have any particular agenda or drive. She's a pretty normal girl, all in all, in a franchise filled with much stronger personalities.
Hell, she's not even a visually interesting character to throw into backgrounds.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Assume each drug sells as well (this is the best selling drug in America, actually.) That gives around $40 billion. That's not much for running a country, including expense for the business itself. Pharmacy companies have bigger profits, and they haven't purchased themselves a better public image like Magneto plans to do.
It could be a tribute cover for the Empyre event.
Once again, they are investing that money in other things and getting massive returns. Just as well, Xavier is considered the richest man in the world (in comparison, Jeff Bezos currently has a net worth of $131 billion, which means Xavier is worth more than that) and has other sources of income (including X-Corporation run by the other billionaire, Sunspot).
You seem to be under the impression that "selling drugs" is their sole source of income when it isn't.
They also have the advantage of Kroaka providing all their infrastructure for free. A lot of the costs of running a country have already been taken care of.
Name one of those massive returns. X-Corp is a non-profit. Xavier and Sunspot inherited much of their wealth, and Sunspot is supposed to have given most of his away. Once again, all the money of every billionaire in the U.S. (let alone two) would only run the government for a couple of months. It's a matter of scale. Those three drugs are Krakoa's exports. Xavier has some outside companies in his name, but the economic domination that Magneto expects is from the drug trade. Wolverine Waste Management couldn't provide that before Krakoa, so it wouldn't now.
Another X-Book announced, Children of the Atom
Edited by Zarius on Jan 17th 2020 at 10:01:17 AM
Also, Krakoa is a self-sustaining nation. It doesn't need the same resources as other nations, since it can just grow them. Therefore the drug money doesn't even need to be used like other countries.
Xavier and the other mutants are making a ton of money and using it to their advantage. Deal with it.
Huh. I wonder if that's Vita Ayala's book and what it's about.
Edited by alliterator on Jan 17th 2020 at 10:02:41 AM
Yep, Children of the Atom by Vita Ayala and Bernard Chang. It's also going to be about a new class of mutants, the X-Men's "sidekicks."
This is pretty exciting, actually. The upcoming run of X-books will now have two female writers (Tini Howard, Leah Williams), one non-binary writer (Vita Ayala), and one Chip Zdarsky.
You know I was reading the new Iron Man book, and how tony and everyone are like I'm just a copy of my mind in a new body I'm not real, and over in the x-men books its like yeah most of us are copies of our minds in new bodies at this point and its fine.
I can point out when the logic doesn't make sense. You're the one who brought up the specific numbers for the bestselling drug and the richest man in the world.
Its comic books.
It doesn’t have to make exact sense.
