[up]As expected, other countries are giving out relief efforts the way they are intended.

And what do you guys think of the spat between Anderson Cooper and Korina Sanchez?

I have no comment over the matter, aside from thinking she's doing it as a publicity stunt and a fit of jealousy, since there were those who were comparing her over seeing the CNN newscaster shooting outside while "she's sitting her pretty little ass" inside the newsroom and radio studio.

I found the inane loyalty silly just because a well-known foreigner had a good opinion over our race, to be honest. Like we're really desperate over any hint of approval from outside. My lack of opinion turned rather worthy for some reason. =_=

Hi! New guy here, from San Pedro, Laguna(w/c is just south of Muntinlupa City). I think I have found a series worth putting in here (TV 5 really likes uploading their weekly dramas on You Tube, but hurry up as they'll end in like two weeks). Here's the links: (one is titled For Love or Money - stars Derek Ramsey, Ritz Azul and the sexier as ever Alice Dixson and the other one is Positive - possibly the first HIV-centered drama in Asia headlined by Martin Escudero) (im on my dad's smartphone right now, so the links are for youtube mobile, they're on my signature line for now, as i can't posr external links yet)

[up][up] We desperately need something to be proud of because asides from our wonderful culture, we really don't have anything else to be proud of.

Speaking of primetime shows, GMA-7 sure likes to employ the services of their artists for dubbing foreign films instead of leaving it to the professionals. However, I find some of the performances to be pretty good. Examples are:

  • Renz Valerio as Greg Heffley
  • Kevin Santos (the guy who played the role of Dennis Trillo's Camp Gay best friend) as Gulliver
  • Betong Sumaya, Jr. (an up-and-coming comedian) as Marmaduke.
  • Alden Richards, Enzo Pineda, Hiro Peralta, and Lauren Young (younger sister of Miss World 2013 Megan Lynn Young) as the Fantastic Four.

I was born and raised in the US by Filipino parents, so yeah, I guess I count as a Filipino by blood. I did move to the Philippines for a while and attended middle and high school there before moving back to the states.

At first I didn't want to move to another country because the US was my home. Then I got over it and have, to some degree, accepted the Philippines as my second home, knowing that if I never moved there, I would have never met a lot of interesting people and made some great friends.

I never fully learned the language because for whatever reason, I never felt the need to. It could be because I spent the rest of my pre-college school years in an international school that was filled with people of many heritages and where English was the default language anyway. That being said, I did take a few foreign language classes in Tagalog though.

Need help! I did the page on Positive, but don't have all the time to list the actual tropes! If anyone has finished watching it on You Tube, please help! Thanks! (I'm inside an internet cafe right now, and my PC time's almost up.)

cocoy0 here. Anyone put up an Eat Bulaga page? I basically learned all my memes from those guys before the Internet. The US may have SNL, we have Eat! Bulaga.

Personally, I don't think it's a good idea. Outside of personal distaste, it's just...a waste of effort, since I'm not sure if there would be an interest over other Filipinos to edit it.

It would be nicer if you'd put up an interest page for the others whether they'd be down with the idea over having a page set out or not. Besides, the Philippines doesn't need to compete with a site RAN by Americans for one, and the way you said that comes across as "The Philippines need more exposure over showing more over the culture to showcase how special we are" that all the other countries also have variety shows of some sort.

Filipinos need to tone down that shit that makes them think they're special compared to other nationalities. Sorry for the rudeness.

Before this comes across as racist and harsh, please read it again...

On the other hand if you meant that as a way to show the unique culture of the show and tropes it had, then go ahead.

[up][up] Now it's raining every once in a while.

Maybe I should have thrown out the idea of useful Notes: Ferdinand Marcos earlier.

No, no. Don't get me wrong, Ferdinand Marcos is a historical figure and an interesting president. He's interesting.

Eat!Bulaga is just...I can't find polite words for this show.

I may be a bit biased, though.

Ateneo. I am biased though.

I've been rooting for UE, though that might have to change given a possible match up with mah alma mater should they win their next game. I do have to say that I will miss Roi Sumang. Always enjoyed having him around.

So guys, I found this awesome blog on Tumblr about Pinoy culture! It has a crapton of stuff like historical pictures, artwork, TV shows, and excerpts from books, which makes it at least 50% Costume Porn.

As a Brit who has lived in the Philippines for a while, I make my appearance here.

I can speak some Tagalog (with a blatantly obvious accent and wrong grammar abound) and have lost my interest in this country for a while, although recent events have caught my attention, like Typhoon Haiyan.

I've been hearing about the Mamasapano Clash from some of my native friends. What happened there?

[up][up] Welcome to the Filipino Troper Covens.

Although I'm Filipino living here, I'm about just as confused as you are. What I do know is that 44 elite policemen trying to serve a warrant of arrest for two international terrorists were ambushed by rebels en route. There may be two problems: lack of coordination and broken chain of command.

Although they did manage to kill one of their two targets, it didn't have to take 44 people to do that. Another problem is that some of the people who killed the Fallen 44 are alleged members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF for short, but not that one), which has undergoing peace talks with the Philippine government while the Bangsamoro Basic Law (a proposed bill that aims to replace the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao) is still being deliberated. With that, the BBL is in danger of being shot down, which may lead to another conflict, which we don't want, considering the China situation.

There are some who are not in favor of granting local autonomy to the Muslims in Mindanao, because they fear that the Muslims wanted to create a separate Islamic state. If that happens, there is no assurance that this new Islamic state will not join the extremist Islamic groups such as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in wreaking havoc to the world.

In other news, the girl in this video is currently a massive Base Breaker among the Internet community.

Is her speech a way of exposing the wrongs in the Philippine educational system (particularly the way schools choose the top students), or is it just to tell the valedictorian that she (the salutatorian) should be number one?

Take note that the "Valedictorian/Salutatorian" thing can be quite the Serious Business in Philippine High Schools, because most colleges and universities give full tuition and half tuition scholarships to class valedictorians and salutatorians, respectively, who enroll in their schools. So of course, if you're short on cash for college, as most Scholarship Students are, you cannot afford not to be at the top, especially if you know you definitely deserve it better than anyone else.

But then again, there is a proper avenue for everything. When all proper avenues are exhausted, only then you can use the last resort. But sometimes, there are things that are not meant for you. Maybe that girl is only a salutatorian now, but perhaps she will graduate summa cum laude from a highly prestigious school here or abroad.

I only placed 11th in my high school class. I knew I deserved better, but I thought I didn't do that well especially in my fourth year, so that hurt my chances of landing the top two spots a lot.

Another thing. In the Philippines, when vying for scholastic honors, high grades aren't usually enough to get you there, since extra-curricular activities such as participation in school clubs are also taken into account. So even if you got 100 out of 100 every time, you can still be edged out by someone who gets like 70-90 out of 100 on average but joins in like ten times more school activities than you do.
