Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

[up][up] Didn't Chris Evans also hurt himself during the filming of Civil War because of his exercise regime? I imagine one of the reasons the guy wants to work behind the camera is so he doesn't have to deal with stuff like this.

[up][up]I thought that was because the set for the helicopter pull scene went a little too far and he actually had to pull the helicopter back a little bit.

I want a "Thor getting back in shape" montage.

What would it involve? Thor wrestling dragons?

Yes. Yes it would. Also maybe jogging.

Yes. All this to the tune of "Push It To The Limit". You all know you want it.

Alternative music for if they choose to creat a training montage:

Given that Thor's going on outer space adventures with tons of advanced technology all around, getting back in shape could be as simple as spending a few minutes hooked up to a high-tech suction device.

And now I'm imagining Thor getting in the same training montage as Bob Parr.

Reading the Walt Simonson run of Thor, I would like to see Thor with long-flowing locks.

It does make him look Godlike.

Where’s the fun in that?

All depends on what sound effects you give the suction device.

As WandaVision goes through the different eras of sitcoms, expect them to touch on the 2010's era of mockumentary sitcoms, a la The Office and Modern Family.

Them parodying their time with the Avengers in a The Office kind of way sounds hysterical.

Camera interviews:

Nick Fury: I used to babysit to pay the bills when I was a teen. Handling the Avengers reminds me a lot of those days, except there's more vomit involved.

Bruce Banner: The only good thing I can say about the job is that working with these people means I never have to try very hard to Hulk out when necessary.

Natasha Romanov: Am I really the only woman on this team? Nick Fury couldn't find any other woman on the planet to join?

Nick Fury (whispering): Not on this planet...

Thor Odinson: Oh yeah, everyone's great here! I love everybody here. Except that one guy who keeps playing Galaga. I hate him for beating my high score.

Clint Barton: What do you mean do I feel inadequate on this team? I use a weapon that's been outdated for centuries and make it work. Of course I belong on the Avengers!

Tony Stark: No, it's not egotism and narcissism to claim that I'm the brains behind this whole sorry operation. It's a simple fact.

Steve Rogers: ...I hate them. I hate these people so much.

Oh please. No excuses are needed to punch Tony in the face.

Wanting to kick his ass proves your sane.tongue

Or, as most of the villains who want to kill Tony show, it proves you were already massively messed in the head.

Though even they weren't as messed up as Mysterio. At least they had the guts to go after Tony when he was still alive.

You act as though Mysterio probably wasn't planning to do so.

He just never got the chance.

Plus, you'd want to burn the world too if the asshole who (supposedly) stole your tech and renamed it B.A.R.F. died a martyr.

Mysterio did the only thing that made sense: fake a massive disaster that would have still killed a lot of people in order to become a hero.

Stark didn't steal BARF, really. He just didn't make it himself.

Owning (the majority of) a massive company and spending $611M has its benefits, after all.

Don't Panic.

Jeremy Renner shared a pic of him all beat up, but this is most definitely for filming the Hawkeye series on D+.

Like we expected from the start, the usage of bandaids here should harken back to the signature run by Matt Fraction.

Huh. For some reason, until now I always thought the Hawkeye series was going to be animated.
