I don't want Yunsung to die, as I liked using him in 4(thought he was awful in SC 2 though, sorry X) but if given the choice between him and Hwang, I'd definitely take the latter.

To be honest, he's kinda been awful in all of 'em (he's low-mid on average, I believe), but I could never fully adapt to the changes made in III (unlike Kilik, Maxi, and Siegfried), which changed up how his throws worked (A+G no longer provides for a Ring Out, but B+G now does), some of his stances, and removed his basic A A B combo. And then they changed him up again for IV.

But yeah, I'd rather have Hwang than Yun-seong. Who knows? Maybe seventeen years of not being active will make Yun Older and Wiser?

Yesterday I realized the unfortunate implications of having the main Korean character be a complete moron who goes around assaulting every Japanese person he sees.

So I found out Chie (Li Long's wife) became the new head of Taki's clan, following in her father's footsteps. I'm glad to hear that. Considering the amount of skill she, her father, and her child should have, it always bothered me that they were out of focus. enough that I made a Katana and Shuriken ninja in III out of how I'd like her to play as. Second favorite to myself.

Something that I've been wondering for a while: Has anyone ever seen or heard of artwork, fan-made or official, that depicts hypothetical Nightmare-style Soul Edge-corrupted versions of Soul Series characters other than Siegfreid *

? I'm particularly interested in Ivy, whose admission to Nightmare's group in Soulcalibur was primarily because Soul Edge, having sensed her his taint in her blood (which is due to her being sired by by the then thoroughly Soul Edge-corrupted Cervantes), intended for her to be a spare host in case some unexpected happened that would force him to abandon his current one (Siegfried).

Actually, I think there is art of Zasalamel from his brief period as Soul Edge's host. However, it's just his III design with a Nightmare arm, so...

There's artwork of Zasa as Soul Edge's host back when he sought it out in order to kill himself (although, erroneously so, it's merely a picture of his current incarnation, but with the mutated right arm and holding Soul Edge). There's also fan art of Sophitia as the next Nightmare (which is more or less her look in IV, but with the mutated arm and some mutations in a few other areas, such as one of her legs), thanks to the prevalent theory that she's the new host of the sword in SCV. I've also seen at least one depiction of Talim with Soul Edge, oddly enough.

Soul Edge corrupted characters? Quite a few, actually. Though the only examples I can think of offhand are all by the artist Xuexueyuehua

It was somewhat mistranslated. Korean characters tend to have various letters associated with them when translated to English. It's a bit complicated.

Wouldn't it be hilarious with Nightmare really was Sophitia and his 2P costume was that solo fan art of Sophie?

Eh... I don't see it either. He looks slightly less derpy, but that's about it.

Yeah, that eye takes her from Evil Is Sexy to Creepy Sexy.

They were actually very good.

Favourite was definitely Vampire!Cassandra though.

I mean, Evil!Cassandra didn't actually look that evil to me. But Vampire Cassandra looked all, "Yeah, I'm gonna drink your blood".

Okay, so, I've been playing Soul Calibur III, and I've learned what most of the weapon effect icons mean, except the defense up/down... Does anyone know what it actually does?

Er... exactly what it looks like, I believe. Your defense stat either increases or decreases.

So it affects damage taken? I assumed it had something to do with guarding, but I guess that makes more sense.

So thoughts:

Any character you guys dislike/like more than any other? Any new character that seems disinteresting or interesting? Any character you wish got more focus?

• Talim is my favorite character
• I absolutely hate Yunsung, not just because I like Talim. He's like the quintessential Idiot Hero.
• Zwei looks like Namco was trying too hard, and is my least favorite. An amnesiac with a weird sword style and who summons a spirit wolf? That's enough for two or three characters.
• Oddly enough, I like Viola, who after I saw her in motion was the only new character I liked.
• I wish Charade was a main character in 3. Like "became the body for Nightmare", instead of "merged with the sword, while Nightmare just decides that now that it's weakened, it doesn't need a body anymore". I'd like Lizardman sooo much more if they didn't treat him as a Joke Character, and recognized him as one of the most tragic heroes, which he is.

I'm starting to find it possible that Talim's ending in IV (which I didn't play) is canon. Who else realistically (smart and capable enough to do it) weakened both swords in their ending?

That line was as epic as Night-Ham's.

Favorite character? Depends. In terms of gameplay and I suppose overall, Kilik. His fighting style is incredibly fluid, well done and he's a blast to use. I like his backstory too. As for actual character, Cervantes, especially his SC 2 incarnation which is by far my favorite rendition of him. His voice work was superb and probably my favorite in the series. COME WITH MEEE TO HELLLLLL!!!

Least favorite? Guest/Bonus characters aside, probably SC 4 Rock who's the worst character in the game. I was shocked at just how garbage they made the guy(I didn't play SC 3). I don't like Lizardman as a character after SC 1, although his fighting style is actually somewhat decent, unlike rock.

As for the new characters, TBH so far only the Alexandra siblings have really got me interested. I'm not sold completely on Viola just yet, Lexia I'm indifferent to, Zwei's gimmick I'm not fond of and I have zero interest in Natsu.

My top character is undoubtedly Cervantes. An undead ambidexterous soul-sucking spanish pirate with a gun. Simply too awesome. The first bearer of the Soul Edge in the series (As in, when the series started.)

I also enjoy Yoshimitsu for being a Fighting Clown. Especially when he starts reciting proverbs. Never really got good at him, though.

Female-wise, a tie between Cassandra and Seoung Mi-Na. Both sassy tough gals, but in slightly different ways.

So far, nobody in the new crew has really caught my attention, I must say. Not bad, they just don't impress me.

Least favourite, hm...probably Yunsung, the man's such an idiot and I don't really like his play style either.

The only bonus/guest character I've liked so far is Shura. Way better dark action girl than Tira at any rate. And the only new character I'm looking forward to at the moment is Viola.

Alas...poor Yunsung gets no love. His character is a total moron, but I thought he was fun to use in SC 4. He's actually one of my favorites to use there.

You're not the only one I've seen who feels that way about Patro. I don't see why so many are already turned off from him. His fighting stance looks goofy I admit, and his outfit isn't the best but he doesn't see that bad. Is it his hair? I think the idea of a curly haired protagonist is kind of cool.

Actually, reading his wiki entry, he does come off as a bit of a douche.

My favorite character is Nightmare, for his awesome design and hamminess.

My least favorite is Raphael because he's a Lolicon Jerkass.

Of the new characters, Zwei seems pretty cool. And something about Patrokolus makes me want to punch him in the face.

And my favorite bonus character in IV is actually Kamikirimusi. I thought her design looked cute.

"Pyrrha's design and personality are often criticized by people in the community as catering to the moe fandom. She is also very often described as the most annoying character in the upcoming game."

And I thought Patros was going to be the hated one...

So both the new main characters are disliked, this does not bode well.

Just bring back the Alexandria sisters. I always thought Cassandra vs Nightmre!Sophitia would be kinda interesting, given why Cassandra entered into the fight to begin with.
