So at the beginning when Cassandra is saying "where am I....this time...?", that maaaaay be referring to her getting lost in Astral Chaos between 4 and 5. Is it possible Cadsandra transcended timelines?

Well, this is ironic.

If you look back in the posts, I once asked what a 2D Soul Calibur would be like, and someone said it'd probably be akin to Samurai Shodown. And now, here we are with an SS character in SC.

Finally news! I hope this will help make sure the hype still burns.

It's funny. The moment I heard the news, I thought: "who else from Samurai Shodown would work in this game?"

And my brain immediately responded with "everybody."

I'd have liked Nakoruru. I keep seeing her as Talim mixed with Viola.

Though arguably the characters from Samurai Shodown fit better in Soul Calibur than the characters from Soul Calibur would fit in Samurai Shodown, gameplay wise.

Also it's funny to me how Sophitia is meant to be the sister favored by the gods and Cassandra is the one who rejects them, yet Cass' new moveset incorporates waaaaaaaay more holy magic than Sophie's does. Her new gimmick is that certain attacks can stack up charges that allow her to perform enhanced attacks that involve a lot of lightning. Including summoning a bolt that strikes down at a distance.

This character is gonna be fun.

I'm not sure if I like the idea of being able to guard impacting unblockables. I don't remember unblockables being all that being cheap unless it someone was setting one up.

If anything else I rather be able to guard impact Reversal Edges & Guards Breaks, but these could all be the complaints of a scrub.

It will be awkward for him and Mitsurugi due to both being based on the same person, though...

Pretty sure that's whole reason why Haohmaru is great choice. At least that's how I feel about his inclusion.

Man, that would be great if that were the case.

I have to thoroughly disagree with that assessment.

One's a lot more accessible than the other. Samsho is a deceptively difficult game.

So that's what that mask is referencing to. I didn't think Broken Destiny would ever reference. Unless it has before?

Cass has a bunch of strings that are absurdly strong but use up guard damage.

Talk about Gameplay and Story Integration, lol.

A sword and shield moveset calling down holy lightning...

Seems like they're pulling some of the things that worked in the CAS movesets in SC 3.

So, what with Haohmaru on the way, who else do you guys think we might get as a guest character. There's supposed to be four, right (and Haohmaru is the second not the first, surprisingly)?

Given that Tekken had characters from everything between rival video games to wildly unrelated video games to freaking Walking Dead of all things, we're in a surprising situation where we can't necessarily rule things out based on region or medium.

So my completely random, 100% unlikely pick is Kenshin Himura.

But more likely it's going to be someone from something ongoing and/or currently popular, so... my new random, 200% unlikely pick is Genji (or Reinhardt). Just because of the rage that would undoubtedly ensue.

Haohmaru is the only guest character of the four. As to the other three, I expect to see Rock, Setsuka, and either Hwang or Yun-Seong. I can tell you, we're NOT getting Li Long.

Holy shit. Watching Cassandra's story chronicle.

She actually has 2 story modes, and the second one has Cassandra fight...the Cassandra from the previous timeline! All that time in the Astral Chaos made her a malfested. After New!Cassandra defeats her, she warns her of what happens in the SCV timelime before vanishing. Cassandra, with knowledge of the dark future, aims to prevent it.

So uh, hot damn, they really havent forgitten about SCV. And Cassandra is looking to be a Spanner in the Works of sorts. I can already see where the jokes are gonna head though with SCV being the Dark Timeline...

Do we know anyone else who is stuck in Astral Chaos that could pop out? I know Patroklos was there for a long ass time, and Edge Master, but who else?

Welp, that's the end of Pat. Maybe Pyrrha might still make it since she was born first.

I've defended him for a while, saying that rather than retconning him, just improve him, and while there's no evidence there going to flat out prevent Sophitia's marriage, things look bad for her children...and to be fair, it seems nobody ever really liked Rothion, despite never doing anything wrong.

That's how it goes sometimes I guess.

Someone on the previous page asked how to make an open blazer for a female character. That's easy: use the samurai haori + the ceremonial sleeves and paint both the same color. It works even better if you choose a dark color.

Anyhoo, I'm trying to get used to Cassie's new play style, 'cuz muscle memory from previous games keeps tripping me up. I end up triggering Divine Force half the time without meaning to, because several of her old command inputs activates it.

Also, is anyone elsd fed up with the AI spamming reversal edge? Kilik, Xianghua, Voldo, and Amy are the worst ones. Whenever I fight any of them, the AI acts as if reversal edge is the only move it has. In one match, Xianghua spammed hers 6 times back-to-back in the same round.

I'm on the opposite side of the coin; I think a Patroklos without his entire family torn apart is just what he needs. I recall an ending in SC 3 where Tira's kidnapping fails and she ends up being Soul Edge's host. Now THAT would be interesting. I still havent given up on the next genners from SCV, but this new timeline is way more engaging with the lore than any of the other games have been. Rotion and even Lucius all have personalities now, I dont see why we cant give scv another chance if this much effort is going into the games from here on out.

EDIT: I should also point out that Rothion marries Sophitia in Cass's story, so the marriage is already a done deal. I think Cassandra's plan is find a way to remove that final shard from Sophitia without killing her. Without that shard, Pyrrha wont have all that tainted evil juice, nor need the shard to survive. That would also throw a wrench into Tira's future plans and the Alexandra family would finally have peace

So I finally checked out Cassandra's story mode on youtube:

Man, I know it was said she fought her OG self but said OG Cassandra even wearing her Soul Calibur IV duds was cool too. Notably, when Rothion and Sophitia ask her to name their child, the name for a boy she comes up with is Deucalion....as I said, so long Pat. It's more than likely that while Pyrrha keeps her name, we might be essentially getting a new character for Sophie's son.

Right now the biggest question is what exactly Cass can do. There's no way to remove the shard of Soul Edge without killing Sophie. Before she can have any kids, that has to be somehow done. That's the best way to avert the future...besides changing the son's name, which they are totally gonna do.

When you said "so long Pat" I thought you were implying Cassandra, having known about the bad future, had made plans to murder Patroklos as soon as he was born to prevent the bad future. What you actually meant is considerably less dark. Thing is, Pyrrha was born first, so she would be naming her. That's why she trailed off seemd to imply that she was going to come up with Pyrrha. I'm sure Patroklos is still going to be named Patroklos when he's born.

Yeah I doubt Cassandra named both kids. Rothion or Sophitia probably named Pat. You know with all this effect Astral Chaos has on people, im surprised Pat and Edge Master were able to stay sane. Props to those two for not becoming malfested.

Well, people likely assuming Pat was malfested. Or maybe asshat-fested.

I also admit I'm fully away Pyrrha came first, but I'm not totally ruling out Namco doing another dis to Pat by renaming him. But yeah, he's probably just gonna be Pat.
