Ahh, console video games (or vidcons as I call them). the ultimate medium of expression, able to convey any emotion ranging from hatred to love, loyalty to fear, all in front of our eyes. Ah, and with lovingly crafted art, music, and the ability to control the action, vidcons are the ultimate combination of the high arts. While I tend to play the stoic, I will be the first to admit that vidcons haven driven me to cry, to scream and shout, to feel actual hate; such is the power of this force beyond our wildest reckoning. And here I am, before you, to temp your tongues with the taint of such a tantalizing topic.

And the Japanese, the true geniuses behind the world of video games. Pah, I throw my scorn upon such incompetents of the West who would mock the true art of the Japanese with 'games' such as Baldur's Gate and Madden. Perhaps it is that the West is not as intelligent as the East, but this is a matter for another day. Japan has given us such masterpieces as the Final Fantasy series, Star Ocean, Wild Arms, and of course, Arc the Lad. Yes, some of the finest vidcons in the world were created by Japanese. I come to you today to ask you in all earnesty, what is your favorite vidcon? I will reveal mine after the grand debate has illustriously begun, but not before the first poster falls victim to my plot of discussion.

In other words, this is a thread on an imaginary forum our avatars frequent. The topic can fluctuate, and its mostly just general discussion.

Tomorrow in the afternoon. Hopefully it stops snowing by then. Mostly today we're just preparing the synth stuff and setup. Speaking of which, I've been listening to a rock music playlist while running on the treadmill. It helps keep me going a lot, so if you don't already do that, I recommend listening to this type of music while exercising.

Tsk. You see, it's exactly this sort of frequent prison-breaks that dissuade me from "no killing" rules. Now, Batman, had you been like me and simply killed your enemies whenever you had the chance, you wouldn't be in this situation.

That's an interesting guess, but alright... What happened in your world, did the Russians pull out nukes or something?

Well, it’s a bit complicated, but a long story short, there were some nukes flying, but the few that were flown were shot down by the major powers and a more grueling land war campaign was launched while NATO and the Russians frantically try to regain control of the rest of the nuclear arsenal.

Unfortunately for them, general unrest from the dissatisfaction of the war has led to massive anarchist uprisings all over the world, with one successfully wrestling control of the nukes.

As a result, this mass uprising has affected both sides of the conflict and degraded it into some sort of free-for-all between governments and anarchists.

Right now, it’s been, I think nine years after the war had ended. The world’s recovering, but it’s weakened overall…

Wow . . . That's bad. How long did this nuclear war go on for? Because it sounds like you experienced the aftermath of the Long War except over five percept of the span of time. And if "nukes" work the way I think they do, that's going to be very hard to recover from.

Yeah, that's fair.
When Icarus visited my homeworld, the following people caught on, in this order:
My mother, my family, Genshin fans, the local police force, secret services across the world, the news. In the most intense phases, I ended up not being able to sleep because I kept getting interrupted by phone calls. If I let that happen again, I'll definitely not repeat the mistake of affiliating myself with it.
Beyond that... Icarus, what's your experience with first contact?

Typically contact with research institutes, then secret services, then, if everything runs smoothly, the public. It wouldn't be the first time that due to extreme prejudice, governments simply cut contact with us, but we do try our best to keep up good publicity. Still, if your world's recovering, then maybe it doesn't even need our help.

[1] One nuclear warhead can have an explosive force equivalent to that of 10 tons to 50 megatons of TNT. Detonating one comes with the downside of the environment now being contaminated with extremely dangerous gamma radiation for years to come, and that you've shown the world how bad at politics you are. So yeah, not pretty stuff.

I assume you mean metric megatons, correct?

Detonating one comes with the downside of the environment now being contaminated with extremely dangerous gamma radiation for years to come,

Yes, I had heard about the radiation before. That's what separates nuclear bombs from a lot of the superweapons here.

I mostly wanted the span of time for the Morgan is talking about. Because if the war consistently saw nukes being used throughout the whole thing, and if the war was continent-wide (if not flat-out world-wide), I figure they could replicate the effects of our worst war (which was ~2 centuries) in the span of a single decade. Which is horrifying.

Well, you’d be surprised that out of the 12,705 warheads owned by the nuclear powers, only a tiny 15 were launched, with only five landing on Earth in sparse areas and in the sea, only two exploded out of the five that landed.

As for the other 10 that were launched, there was a massive worldwide hacking job that resulted in those exploding in space and the rest of the global arsenal being not used for the duration of the 4-year world war.

In other words, the nukes were not much of a major factor Tarvek, but it did result in a bloody land war that was rife with asymmetric warfare, and that’s not mentioning the anarchists that made both sides bleed some more.
