They're something like weird minimalistic TakeThats at the end of the articles. What's not to love?
Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?Waldorf: Hey, he seems to be saying that our absence from this wiki would improve their Internet experience!
Statler: Who cares? It would certainly improve ours!
Both: Do-ho-ho-ho-hoh!

“I just think that's really shady." "Shady?!" - Stephanie & Chad, The Amazing Race 17What page is that from? Because that needs to be improved.
Page? He made it specifically for this topic.
And though I'm on the side that would prefer a pruning of the S&W quips (I think many are not very well-written) I actually thought that one was pretty good.
Which is one problem. I'd love to say "Well, I don't want to wipe them all out, I just think the bad ones should be removed or improved." But then, who gets to decide which ones are bad?
Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation.Wrong. It's from the Statler And Waldorf page itself. (I guess that proves that being at the bottom of pages does make them unobtrusive.)
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)For the record, I don't really mind the Statler and Waldorf gags at all. I'm actually not too familiar with the characters, but I've found several of them amusing and, as has been said, they really aren't on all that many pages.
“I just think that's really shady." "Shady?!" - Stephanie & Chad, The Amazing Race 17Well, curses.
And here the sheer appropriatness to this thread made me think it was made specifically for this thread. Well, shows what I know.
Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation. So the current outline for a TV Trope page, some items optional, is:
- opening quote
- page image
- trope description
- examples of the trope
- Statler And Waldorf stinger.
One of these things does not belong.

Pretentious quote || In-joke from fandom you've never heard of || Shameless self-promotion || Something weird you'll habituate to^^^ Are they on every page?
No.
Let's not aim at the 'if any then all' argument here. This is about a small percentage of a small percentage of trope pages.
And if they do harm, we have yet to see it.
@Triple Elation- They're not at the bottom of every page nor are they the only stingers that I've seen around. Besides that, as others and possibly myself if I've posted in this thread— being at the bottom, they're not hurting anything.
They lost me. Forgot me. Made you from parts of me. If you're the One, my father's son, what am I supposed to be?As long as they don't start spreading to every page, and the few that are made are at least decent, I don't overly mind them. My vote isn't on pure removal, it's on quality control.
Still would like to see a removal of the bad ones. But, as mentioned, who gets to say which ones are "bad?"
Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation.I think we should also ditch the bad ones, trouble is I've found them all to be good so bad one number="0" to be ditched. Everyone has different tastes in humour.
Where did I say "oh god noez they'll be on every page soon and we can't have that"? I think we can't have this thing around as it is, because it amounts to force-feeding people memes they don't care for. People come to the trope page to read about the trope. The Statler And Waldorf stingers are not about the trope; they're about Statler And Waldorf. I don't care how "ironic" they are, they're useless noise just like CATS and Vegeta breaking his scouter and lolcatz and demotivators and the rest of them.

Pretentious quote || In-joke from fandom you've never heard of || Shameless self-promotion || Something weird you'll habituate toAlso, the flaw in your proposed outline is that not all stingers are Staler and Waldorf. Some pages have other types of stingers that demostrates the trope, like Book Ends.
I don't mind them... but the problem is they are placed on areas that really don't fit. I think they should be placed on non-trope titles (e.g. Anti-Hero instead of Sponge Bob Square Pants). Really, there was a pointless addition in Digimon Xros Wars.
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.I have nothing against those.
Pretentious quote || In-joke from fandom you've never heard of || Shameless self-promotion || Something weird you'll habituate toSo you misstated the "page layout" deliberately?
It's really
- . (optional) opening quote
- . (Optional) page image
- . Trope description
- . (Optional) examples of the trope
- . (Optional) stinger.
- . Index bar
That's a more accurate description of the page layout.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I ridiculed the fact that people are apparently considering the Statler And Waldorf thing a standard issue thing to throw on a page, like having a page quote or an image. This has nothing to do with The Stinger, which is in fact a standard issue thing to throw on a page.

Pretentious quote || In-joke from fandom you've never heard of || Shameless self-promotion || Something weird you'll habituate toNo one here was considering a Statler and Waldorf stinger a standard thing to add at the end of a page. Except you. Stingers of whatever nature are an optional page item. Statler and Waldorf are on fewer than 1/1000th of the pages in the wiki. That's hardly "standard".
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.What I mean by "standard" is "can feel at home in any given page".
1 page they're on they have no business being on is 1 page too many.

And anyway.
Ookamikun: what areas "fit"?

Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google? It fits on work titles, not on tropes. Like say, it fits on Animal Farm but not on Husky Russkie

Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.
Crown Description:
Not quite a page action so much as an item action. This is what to do with the 80 or so Statler And Waldorf stingers scattered across the wiki.
The ones I've seen are Actually Pretty Funny.
Frankly, they're at the end of the page. No harm done.
Half-Life: Dual Nature, a crossover story of reasonably sized proportions.
