• Fandom Rivalry: Which is better, VelociCoaster or Japan's The Flying Dinosaur? The former easily wins on the theming front, but there is a debate to be had over which coaster offers the more intense and unique ride experience.
• Memetic Mutation: The Churro Stand.^Explanation Due to Universal's extreme secrecy about the ride, making no public mention of it until around one and a half years after it started construction, fans began to joke that the very conspicuous and large-scale construction project going on was really just to build a churro stand. This turned into Meme Acknowledgement when on opening day, riders earned a free churro for finishing the ride.
• Signature Scene: From a visual perspective, the ride's 47m top hat quickly became an iconic part of the park's skyline even before the ride opened.
• Spiritual Successor: To Dueling Dragons. While that ride's direct replacement was more family-oriented, the VelociCoaster leans much harder into the thrills.
• Tainted by the Preview: Fans were a bit weary when it was revealed that Intamin was the coaster’s manufacturer, given the infamous teething troubles that both Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts and Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure had upon their openings. Thankfully, the VelociCoaster was subject to a much more comprehensive testing period, and has proven to be reliable in-service.
