• Ascended Fanon: A lot of things published by the fans end up appearing in the story.
• Follow the Leader: This fic owes a lot to It's not the Raptor DNA, but it otherwise goes in its own direction.
  • Then there's another story called "It's not the Scaly Raptor DNA," a Fusion Fic between this story and the original.
• Growing the Beard: The fic starts somewhat slow, but after most characters are introduced, the plot starts to get much better.
• Harsher in Hindsight: One recurring plot thread for the story is that there's a volcano erupting near the island, and care needs to be taken in order to make sure the Park is safe. Fallen Kingdom would, as a major plot point, have the island the park is on erupt and kill almost all the dinosaurs.
• I Knew It!: Many readers were unsurprised by Dr. Wu having made Neanderthals. Less so on him creating the Indominus Sapiens.
• Memetic Badass: Claire is reaching this level among the Jurassic World employees from both how intimidating she can be (especially after she gains the power to transform into a T-Rex) and the fact Rexy apparently listens to her.
• Moral Event Horizon: Aside from the canon event of creating the Indominus Rex, Wu creating the Indominus Sapiens. Summed up best by a fan here.
  Wu created a new sapient species, without any care or thought for whether or not he should. That's probably his biggest sin and the most asshole thing he's done: his complete lack of care for not only his fellow men, but for his very own creations. Wu's a complete egocentric a-hole, dumping this unfortunate creature in a world that simply isn't ready for it. I mean, good grief, we have trouble getting along with members of our own species, happily slaughtering each other by the thousands or millions if we can find but the excuse or reason. People already can't get along because someone has a different skin colour or because someone loves someone of the same gender. What chance would something that is decidedly not part of the Homo Sapiens race stand in a world like this? I can already see the religious nutjobs with their picket signs proclaiming "God Hates Scalies" or whatever derogatory term they can come up with.
• Narm Charm: Some parts of the fic are so ridiculous that they are awesome.
• Nightmare Fuel: Murphy goes into the mess hall of his escape ship after hearing someone calling for help. He finds a group of hybrid Troodon that could mimic human speech.
  • Said ship is later implied to have beached itself on the coast of Peru.
• Non-Indicative Name: A name like "The Scaly Raptor" doesn't exactly imply that the story is about a magic amulet that allows humans to shapeshift into dinosaurs and vice versa.
  • According to Word of God, it's a reference to The Shaggy Dog.
• Slow-Paced Beginning: The story starts somewhat slow, but as it moves on, the story starts to develop more, and new characters are introduced.
• Take That, Scrappy!: Sarah Harding made a smug and insensitive remark about what happened at Jurassic World, prompting her sister to punch her in the face. And her now husband Ian agreed that she deserved it!
