YMMV / The Royal Tutor

  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • Prince Eins may be the hardest character to read, especially with how little is known about him. Is he behind the attempts to sabotage his brothers or is Ernst acting on his own? Is he an unrepentant Jerkass or just has problems interacting with his family? Does he know that his father doesn't consider him a fitting heir anymore and how does he feels about it? In the anime he realizes Ernst is sabotaging his brothers and stops him, stating that he wants to get the throne through his own power and his relationship with his father and brothers seems to be less strained than in the manga.
    • Naturally, Ernst has gotten lots of especulation. Is he acting out of concern and loyalty towards Eins or just for his own benefit? Both? The anime chose the first option.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Kai is either the most endearing of the four brothers, what with his Gentle Giant personality, love of cute things and seemingly endless amount of empathy, or he's so nice it's unbelievable, and lacks flaws to compensate for it.
  • Captain Obvious Reveal: To an extent, it can be predictable which prince becomes king at the end by simple virtue of Leonhard receiving somewhat more focus than the others. The twist comes more so in that Eins does succeed first, before abdicating to Leonhard years down the line.
  • Moe: The series is a cast full of Moe. The titular Tutor and the 4 princes all get to be adorable or cute at various points in the series. Even the King is Moe.
  • Sweet Dreams Fuel: Virtually every character is some combination of Adorkable and Moe, and the series subscribes to the notion that people are good at heart or can become better, as well as focusing on how to heal or overcome past trauma/current issues.
