  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Is Dan killed for cursing God or for acknowledging his existence? And is his Rage Against the Heavens sincere fury, the act of a Death Seeker who wants to be reunited with his wife, or both?
  • Cliché Storm: Some view the movie as a horror wrapped in Found Footage and Religious Horror cliches despite an interesting story.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Shay, the pastor who wasn’t raptured due to preaching empty platitudes to enhance his status but lost his family due to them being genuine believers. He only appears in the middle section of the film, but his fatherly The Atoner efforts to shelter and counsel the other survivors make him the most popular character for some fans.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The movie's premise, especially considering that the Rapture is a topic rarely covered in modern media.
    • Put yourself in the character's shoes. You're going about your day as usual. Then some people around you suddenly drop dead and their eyes contract to an impossible size. How would you react?
    • Even worse is how this iteration of the Rapture is played out. Let's do a comparison to another movie. In Left Behind, all Christians and children disappear in a flash, leaving behind their clothes and vanishing into thin air. Here, the raptured only have their souls taken while leaving their physical bodies behind, their pupils contract and their faces are frozen in a look of horror. The fact that a body is present makes it all the more horrifying.
    • The scenes of the Rapture at the wedding were bad enough. But when the survivors in the church watch footage of the Rapture occuring elsewhere, it's on a new level of horror.
    • The ending. Arriving at a relief camp, our main characters have made it through hell and back to reach a location to guarantee safety. But when "Amazing Grace" is played through the speakers, that's when small swarms of demons attack. Amidst the chaos, an unearthly trumpet blows in the sky, and it's the final trumpet, the final sign of man's end. And holes in the sky open up, pouring out an ungodly amount of fallen angels to end the human race.
  • The Woobie: None of the characters have it easy as The Rapture commences, but Skylar could give the others a run for their money. Her parents drop dead on her wedding day. She gets stung by a scorpion demon and spends almost a day in constant agony. She also reveals that she felt peer-pressured to go to church for most of her life but it still made enough of an impact on her that she feels hurt and confused about being left behind.
