YMMV / Starshine Legacy

Go To

  • Most Wonderful Sound: When you finish a level and when you complete the game. Soundtrack is called "Winner's Circle" and no wonder why.
  • Moe:
    • Tin-Can due his very pony-like features and being smallest of the Soul Steeds.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Thirth game's ending credits: "Anne and Concorde are safe and they are having a bright future.". Expect that later in Star Stable Online reveals that Dark Riders captured Anne and Concorde. Concorde dies and Anne is send to Pandoria and she has been a prisoner there at least two years.
  • Heartwarming Moments: A few;
    • Lisa being able to use her healing powers in full potential and is able to heal Starshine. And together they manage to escape from Mr. Sands.
    • Linda telling Meteor that he is the best jumping horse in Jorvik and they will be able to jump over edge to the other side, where the bomb is.
    • Anne founding Concorde from Pandoria and reuniting with her beloved horse.
  • Sequel Difficulty Drop: The Secret of Pine Hill Mansion is relatively easy, compared to the other three games, since this is the only game where no one is trying to capture you. However, averted in final level where you have to compete in show jumping competition with Meteor. You have to make almost clean track to win Sabine.
  • Series Continuity Error: In the second game Linda recalls that Mr. Sands kidnapped Starshine "a few weeks ago", which was also the time Starshine was weak and sickly. But in the third game when Concorde faints Herman remarks that similiar happened to Starshine "a few days ago".
  • The Scrappy:
    • No one even in the games likes Mrs. Graham and certainly not the players, espicially in the third game where you can have a game over if she captures Anne three times.
    • Buck, James's bully, is also despised by the players. It doesn't help that he sticks out of the villain group (i.e Garnok's generals) like a sore thumb.
  • Tear Jerker: A few moments;
    • Starshine faints after riding with Lisa. While she discovers her healing powers, they are appearantly not enough to heal Starshine.
    • Alex losing to Katja in the Scarecrow race. Katja clearly cheated and she openly mocks Alex and nobody stands up to her. And to twist to knife even further, she then steals James's soul by kissing him.
    • Tin-Can being ready to sacrifice his life for exchange of James's freedom.
    • In the comic story Lisa, Linda and Meteor go to rescue Starshine from Mr. Sands. But unfourtunatly they crash with a police car. Lisa and Linda didn't get hurt, but poor Meteor got serious injuries. If Lisa didn't show up as she did later, Meteor would have perished right in front of Linda's eyes.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion:
    • Out of all the Soul Steeds Starshine looks more like a mare than a stallion. Doesn't help that he tends to have long eyelashes in some offical art.
    • Alex also has boyish features and her clothing is also more down-to-earth than rest of the Soul Riders. Justified since she is a tomboy.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: The series focuses alot on the bonds between horse and rider, so it's not uncommon to forget that the main plot is about a group of teenagers trying not to get ritually sacrificed to an Eldritch Abonimation who is trying to destroy the universe.
