  • Complete Monster: Mr. Brass of the Hmong gangsters is a short, mild-mannered man with one arm who's also a terrifying sadist. When introduced, Mr. Brass informs a prisoner he never asks a question twice and has him "pick a number", one through ten. The man selects a number which turns out to be the body part Brass removes. Brass proceeds to remove his eye before even asking a question. Brass spends his time torturing his way through the residents of the reservation, largely for his own pleasure. How Brass satisfies his "peculiarities"—he has a penchant for raping and murdering teen prostitutes, male and female—disgusts even the ruthless mob boss Lincoln Red Crow. In the gritty, dark Black-and-Gray Morality world that is Scalped's Rez, Brass is the worst the world has to offer.
  • Funny Moments: This exchange of insults in issue #15:
Dash: That's my goddamn prisoner you got in there, you Mongoloid motherfucker! Move! Post-fucking-haste!
Guard: Ain't happenin', Sittin' Bull. So go on, fuck off back to your wigwam 'n shit.
    (a Beatdown ensues)
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: A year after the adventures of Dashiell Bad Horse premiered here, another Bad Horse would appear with equally loose morals.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Joseph Crane is the former tribal chief of the Potawatomi in Michigan. Forced out of his position by Bobby Greenwood for coming out of the closet, Crane's plans for a gay pride parade enrages the homophobic Greenwood, who calls in the feared enforcer Shunka to intimidate Crane. Manipulating Shunka by playing to Shunka's own feelings as a closeted gay man after sex, Crane is responsible for the death of his assistant to fake his own murder, leaving town while knowing Shunka will kill Greenwood and his allies in retribution. Once Shunka realizes he has been played, it is too late: Crane returns to retake control, dismissing Shunka with absolutely nothing to connect him to any of the murders and his position utterly secure.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Catcher crossed it when he killed Gina Bad Horse.
