YMMV / Rick And Morty S 6 E 10 Ricktional Mortpoons Rickmas Mortcation

Go To

  • Captain Obvious Reveal: The reveal that the Rick from the previous episode is actually a robot comes off as this to many, considering how wildly out of character Rick started to go in the last episode.
  • Fridge Horror: It's possible that Jerry thinks Rick has been a robot for the entirety of Season 6, negating innumerable heartwarming moments between them in this time period. Thus, it's not hard to understand why he ends up asking Summer for drugs.
  • Shallow Parody:
    • The extra-long version of Miracle on 34th Street where (presumably) Fred stands around talking about miracles and different New York City streets reads like someone trying to parody the original film but only knowing its title and that it's a Christmas movie. The result looks a lot more like the ending of It's a Wonderful Life than anything else. Which really sticks out since the episode seems to be implying the movie is bad since Jerry likes it, and very much so when even he starts to hate it.
      • It's even worse than that since, if the title tells you one thing, is where the movie is supposed to take place, but the character just lists streets without even being on the titular 34th (presumably building up to it over several hours). It feels like Justin Roiland making an interdimensional cable-like skit based on the word "street". The Morty-like voice used for it doesn't help.
    • The lightsabers come off as this considering that in Star Wars canon, they actually turn off if they aren't held by any user, making it impossible for them to fall perfectly vertical into anywhere. Plus, whenever the lightsabers on this show kill someone, there's visible blood despite the point of lightsabers being to cauterize a wound.
  • Strawman Has a Point: As Rick points out, even after choosing to open himself to Morty and reveal his backstory, and even foregoing that, Morty rudely brushed him off and called him boring after ignoring his warning, which led to the solar happening in the first place. He wanted to let Morty understand him a bit better, and Morty's attitude towards him comes off as him caring far more about what Rick does rather than how he feels.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Morty is understandably furious at Rick for his deceit and spends most of the episode rejecting him under the belief that Rick was the one who betrayed him. Rick justifiably points out that Morty, in spite of learning his backstory and was willing to be open about it, still had the audacity to insult Rick and call him boring over their recent ventures and is correct in telling Morty that the solar war happened because of his actions for ignoring him.
  • The Woobie: Rick-bot was created with the purpose of making Rick's family happy. Furthermore, he can never declare himself to be a robot. However, over time, he has come to regret this fact and has evolved into a Death Seeker who is wishing for the truth to come out so that he doesn't have to lie to his family.
