YMMV / Python

Go To

  • Base-Breaking Character: Agent Parker. Some fans dislike him for his accent, and for being stupid enough to draw a gun when staying absolutely still to avoid the python was necessary. Others appreciate him for putting his foot down with Rudolph's antics, trying to kill the snake rather than take it alive and caring about the various casualties caused by the python.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Theresa has her fans for being a decent Action Survivor, getting some good lines and being one of the more developed characters despite her secondary role.
    • Clueless Deputy Lewis is considered a scene stealer for how often (and how well) he keeps making a fool out of himself.
    • Parker's equally reasonable and hands-on Number Two Dootsen.
  • First Installment Wins: The mix of genuinely likable characters, amusing acting, and not overusing the CGI Python lead to this film being much more fondly remembered than most of the other giant snake films that came in its wake.
  • He's Just Hiding: While it is assumed that the Python wipes out Parker's field team there were a lot of them, spread out making it easy to imagine some escaped.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: William Zabka, here playing a Sheriff's deputy, feuds with a dark-haired guy he knew from high school (who also happens to be a sports enthusiast) over a girl, before making up and joining forces against a bigger threat. All set in a clearly Californian town. It's strangely prophetic of Cobra Kai, where he plays much the same role as Johnny Lawrence.
  • Moe: The sweet way Theresa talks abut her childhood crush on Tommy and the amount of terror she displays while still showing some good Action Survivor skills make her surprisingly cute and endearing for a secondary character in a B-Movie.
