YMMV / Psycho Soldier

Go To

  • Awesome Music: This game has the honor of being the very first video game to have a fully-voiced song. This song, be it in Japanese or English, is quite a delight to hear, and describes Athena's heart of justice and Psycho powers to purge the Earth of all evildoers, giving it the same vibes as an 80s or 90s Magical Girl anime theme. It's gotten to the point that a remix for it in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is considered one of the absolute best things about the already impressive Terry DLC.
  • Moe: Athena, herself, is just an ordinary yet adorable school girl with pink hair in this game. Unless you're talking about the American and European covers and flyers, of course, which re-imagined her as an Amazonian Beauty.
  • Narm Charm: "Psycho Soldier" is an already cheesy take on Magical Girl theme song in Japanese, but the English version swings into ridiculousness with its corny lyric and amaturish performence. People still love it, in part because it was an impressive undertaking for SNK in 1987 — to hire an English talent to localize the song for the rest of the world to enjoy. This English lyric is as beloved as the Japanese one, as it was used in remixes for SNK 40th Anniversary Collection and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, to great fanfare.
