  • Accidental Innuendo: Tater's youngest cousin was originally named "Cookita" (a stylization of "Cuquita"). While "Cuca" and "Cuquita" are common pet names in Mexico for women named Concepción or Refugio (for example, the wife of ranchera singer Vicente Fernández), in other South American countries "cuca" is slang for female genitals (so "cuquita" would literally mean "little vagina"), so giving that name to a child would be considered grossly inappropriate. This was one of the major issues Latin American viewers had with the show when it was announced in June 2023, so, after apparently realizing this, the character's name was changed to "Lucita".
  • Broken Base: The characters and settings had faced controversy in the Fandom, particularly within the Latin American Fandom. Some fans wanted it cancelled because it is harmful to the culture, while others think it is funny.
  • Cross-Cultural Kerfluffle: The setting for the show was originally named "Terremoto Heights" or Earthquake Heights. Many Mexican fans considered the name to be in poor taste as it brings to mind the catastrophic earthquakes that Mexico has suffered through for decades. The original name was another point to the list of the show's many criticisms.
  • Memetic Mutation: Upon the release of the theme song and its negative reception there, it became popular in Latin America to make parodies of it as a way to make fun of it, with some changing it either to make fun of the United States as a way to fire back against the perceived stereotypes or even mock Disney itself for greenlighting it as a way to earn diversity points.
  • Tainted by the Preview: While most people from other countries seemed to be neutral towards it, the opening theme was met with an extremely negative reception from people within Latin America, who complained about the stereotypes, the incorrect Spanish grammar in the lyricsnote  , the unappealing designs of some of the characters, and the use of yellow filter that's been controversially used to portray Latin American countries. The official YouTube upload received thousands of dislikes before it was privated in April 2024. Not helping matters was when Myrna Velasco, Tater's voice actress, responded to the complaints by stating that the people doing it had no business doing so because Spanish "was forced upon Latin American people by the Spanish conquistadors" note , and referred to those who criticized the theme song as "grammar Nazis".
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks!: When the show was first announced, alongside the theme song being released on YouTube, many people have accused the show of ripping off The Loud House and its spin-off, The Casagrandes, because all three have a similar premise of a child living with chaotic relatives, with The Casagrandes also starring a Latin-American family like Primos.
