YMMV / No Escape (2015)

  • Moral Event Horizon: While the rebel leader (the young one with the red headband) when he lead a vicious rebellion which left half of the city in blood and ruins had somewhat of a justification (very disproportionate, though) for being angry at the high price of the water systems, him trying to rape Annie in front of Jack and then trying to force Lucy to shoot her father was simply For the Evulz.
  • Narm: "Welcome to Asia!" is a wholly unnatural thing to say in real life, and only drew more attention to the fact the movie was carefully trying not to portray a single country.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: The uproar over the film's supposedly racist themes are easily the most well-known aspect of the movie. The fact it's otherwise So Okay, It's Average means that the only way the movie really sticks out is the controversy.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The general consensus of reviewers (aside from those who lambaste it for being racist) is that the movie is good enough, but not particularly compelling or memorable.
  • Spiritual Adaptation:
    • Some viewers who are video gamers find this film a much more faithful adaptation of the Far Cry games then the 2008 film by Uwe Boll (especially its plot that resembles the premises of the third and fourth games).
    • In a meta example, you may consider this film Owen Wilson's attempt to make up for dropping out of Tropic Thunder, which was also set in Indochina.
