  • Americans Hate Tingle: At least, in his Sin Cara gimmick; one that only led to widespread derision by the North American crowd and to this day has only been known for his botches and the absurd storylines they placed him in. In Mexico, he is one of the best individual draws of the 21st century; only matched by other legends of the business. He won the Wrestling Observer Newsletter's 2006 draw of the year award a mere two years after taking up the white mask.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: He caught on like a wildfire in Japan after a romp through Toryumon. It only took four matches in New Japan to get the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title. Unfortunately, lightning didn't strike twice when he wrestled in the USA. This wasn't immediate however, as he had previously worked in Michinoku Pro Wrestling in a run that was not disastrous but not particularly special either since he was using another wrestler's gimmick. The Mistico gimmick caught on quickly after the now more experienced wrestler switched to it.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: This Mistico was involved in a trademark dispute with AAA's Mistico. Eventually, both would be signed to WWE simultaneously, and would share a name once again: that of Sin Cara!
  • Never Live It Down:
    • Some people will just not forget the fact that his first couple of matches had some noticeable botches due to him getting used to the WWE wrestling style.
    • Or his unfortunate t-shirt.
  • Shocking Moments:
    • Booker T calls Sin Cara's aerial moves getting "caught in the lights." He's only exaggerating a little bit.
    • Sin Cara's in-ring struggles as a singles competitor have been well-documented. So how did WWE respond? They put him in a tag team - with Rey Mysterio.
  • Win Back the Crowd: His return to the Mistico gimmick has had him rocket back up the card in Mexico and right back to where he was popularity-wise. Time will tell if his appearance on AEW television will help rehab his image in the northern part of the Americas.
