YMMV / Marooned

Go To

  • Heartwarming Moments: A Soviet cosmonaut approaches the stranded capsule late in the film, and tensions run high over concerns about his motives. It turns out he's taken it on himself to come and help, providing enough extra oxygen for the rescue ship to reach the crew and recover them. Mind that this is at the height of the Cold War, and not far removed from the Cuban Missile Crisis.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • The Apollo 13 disaster occurred mere months after Marooned was released - and a week after its Danish release! It gets better: Jim Lovell and his wife had seen the film, and the death of an astronaut named Jim got his wife quite worried even before the incident.
    • In January 2023, a micrometeoroid struck a Russian space capsule docked at the International Space Station, causing a coolant leak, leaving 3 cosmonauts stranded on the ISS. Thankfully, there's no high-stakes involved, as their stay on the station has just become extended at worst.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Gene Hackman would end up stranded on another ship with a limited window to attempt escape in The Poseidon Adventure. Also in that film, he performs a Heroic Sacrifice, which he was prevented from doing by Richard Crenna's character in this film, while dealing with at least one The Load.
  • Stock Footage Failure: Not the worst offender ever but during the countdown to the Saturn V launch at the start some shots clearly not only show the prep tower still in place (removed hours to days before launch) but also a Saturn test article with no payload on top.
