  • Designated Hero: Jon calls out Damocles in Ryse: Son of Rome as one, pointing out his suicidal charge into enemy lines was entirely his own fault for not falling back and standing with his fellow soldiers.
  • Even Better Sequel: Jon's New Vegas Kill Everything run, while enjoyable, ended up being somewhat mundane due to how straightforward the kills were, and he rushed through the game without going to most of the side locations or any of the DLC zones. The Fallout 3 Kill Everything run, on the other hand, is significantly funnier, more creative in its kills, and has 30 episodes compared to Vegas' 12.
  • He Panned It, Now He Sucks!: His "Fallout 3 Is Better Than You Think" video earned criticism for this reason. Despite being a video that was meant to praise 3 and try explaining its positives, some viewers complained that instead he spent most of the video criticizing Fallout: New Vegas for random reasons, such as it not having dungeons, the handling of the story, or things as arbitrary as loot, and then using that to say 3 was better. It comes across not as a defense of Fallout 3, but rather a criticism of New Vegas meant to make 3 look better. It should be noted that Jon has said on several occasions that New Vegas is his favourite game of all time, though that hasn't stopped people disagreeing with his criticisms of it in that video.
  • Memetic Mutation: "-1 Perception". Jon often has the stunning ability to miss the blindingly obvious, and then get caught off-guard when the things he missed come back to bite him. He always has at least several of these (often many more) in most games, although the area where it's most obvious is in strategy-focused genres and other games where decision-making is most integral.
  • Tear Jerker: The passing of Jon and Claire's beloved cat, Tabby, on June 5th, 2022. Several kingdoms, empires, and cities in games were named after her, she was frequently mentioned in livestreams, and pictures of her were often posted as rewards on Patreon. MATN fans were quick to pass along condolences.
