  • Alternative Character Interpretation: So who is the boy at the crossroads? Are either of the suggested origins true, or are neither of them correct?
  • Complete Monster: The handsome young man of the crossroads, a mysterious being dressed in black, wanders the town in the oppressive fog spreading chaos and discord where he goes. Taking advantage of the urban legend of "crossroad fortunes", the young man delivers fortunes in ways that ruin or end the lives of the recipients, with a rash of suicides from his powers. When a teenage girl crushes on the hero Ryusuke Fukada, the young man forces her into obsession over him until it kills her, before telling an adulterous man's pregnant mistress to seek out larger problems until she murders her lover's young son and immolates herself. Initiating a mass suicide of 200 girls, the young man even forces the Ryusuke's Love Interest Midori into hating him for the rest of her life, a curse she kills herself to escape.
  • Narm: The dialogue of the young characters, at least in the official English translation, comes off as awkward in its attempts to mimic youth slang.
  • Realism-Induced Horror:
    • Ryusuke's parents move back to his childhood home, and their son's mental health deteriorates. He starts attracting weird stalkers, and won't open up to them. Then he's accused of driving teenage girls to suicide, and he runs away to spare his parents the pain. His mother says that she would do anything to have him home and tries shooing the obsessed teenagers away.
    • After the mass suicides, some parents are wandering around with a Thousand-Yard Stare, not knowing what to do or if their children are at peace.
  • Tear Jerker: Midori killing herself to end the torment brought on by the beautiful boy's "advice".
