  • Adorkable:
    • Dani's date, Ben, turns out to not only be a geek, but also a hot geek who likes DDR games, has a good sense of humor, takes well any criticism and is a comicbook illustrator.
    • Mark is a tech-guy who likes Space Jam, and during college he created an app game named "Dopey Cat". When the gang meets Ben, they note that he and Mark are equally dorky.
  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • Leah is deemed as a good romantic option for Dani because of her sassy attitude, smarts and good sense of humor, while others consider her to be a bland obligatory Gay Option that doesn't have enough characterization compared to Ben or Mark.
    • Mark is either the one who should be with Dani for being a Nice Guy and her best friend, or a boring generic guy. Detractors are also off-put by him still secretly having a crush a girl he knew in College ten years after they graduated, viewing it as creepy and unhealthy, while his fans like that he is one of the few Love Interest the player can play as, getting to know him better as a complete character.
    • Some of Ben's detractors tend to define him as "Asian!Mark but more nerd", while others find him endearing, funny and very appealing as a Love Interest and subversion of the geek stereotype.
    • Even though Sereena was Rescued from the Scrappy Heap in Book 2, when she got more POV screen time, she remains a very polarizing member of the gang. Some players like her for her humor, dynamic with Brooke, and loyalty to her friends. Other players hate her for being a stereotypical Straw Feminist and Soapbox Sadie who constantly rants about "the patriarchy" for no real reason and harbors hypocritical views on women's rights.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Tara is the favorite from the rest of the gang's Love Interests, helped by the fact that she had the most interesting personality quirks and a great chemistry with Horatio. In book 2, she's the premium option character that returns more times.
    • Ray "The ex" is the most decent guy (excluding Ben) Dani has dated for the article. Despite being initially a jerk and completely disgusting to hang out with, by the time he reappears, he is making actual effort to become a better person, and in Book 2 he even starts giving country a second chance and actually like it.
    • Andi became this the moment she appeared. Largely avoiding to be the annoying younger sibling for Leah, she gained a lot of fans after giving Camilla a good dosis of her sass, to the point even Sereena is impressed and Ben ended up modeling his superheroine after her.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Dani so far has three canon Love Interests (Mark, Ben, Leah), had to go on tons of dates for her article and some fans even want her to be with Brooke.
  • Love to Hate: Amy. Her obnoxious and toxic attitude clashed with both the characters and the readers, to the point nobody even felt bad for her when Mark dumped her once and for all.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap:
    • Despite still being considered a Base-Breaking Character, some of Sereena's haters found her more tolerable after two improvements from Book 2: Sereena gets more POV and the introduction of Aiyana as her love interest.
    • While not properly a Scrappy, Mark has become more interesting in Book 2, where he is given more POV, shows more quirks and gets a more interesting chemistry and interactions with Ben.
  • The Scrappy: TJ and Martin are this for being one-dimensional Jerkasses and less entertaining to watch than Amy.
  • Strangled by the Red String: Many fans have this impression of Brooke deciding out of nowhere to elope with Keo, who she just met less than a month ago. It doesn't help that her friends are understandably wary of how little they know Keo and how shady he acts, but Brooke's attitude towards them was blown out of proportion. Even after Keo proved to be Good All Along and more willing to forgive them than Brooke herself, what makes it even worse is the resolution where they end up marrying anyway and the gang has to accept this.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Camilla. She serves as the main antagonist for Dani and Leah's blog, while also being exes and the Manipulative Bitch and Toxic Friend Influence with the latter, promising to be a more interesting villain than TJ and Martin. Instead, Camilla only has a dinner with Leah, she barely interacts with Dani until the final chapter, and the characters quickly dismiss her as soon as the award is given to the blog.
