• Fridge Brilliance: In the American remake, the locker room scene reveals Emily is wearing a pair of flowered granny panties. When her friends tease her, she states that these undies are all her mom will buy her (revealing her underwear drawer at home is likely full of granny panty underoos). While this may just seem like a throwaway line to show how controlling Em’s mother is (and thus why Emily acts out), there’s actually a bit more thought put into it. Emily’s mom knows her daughter is in high school and would like to date, and she also knows she wouldn’t ALLOW her daughter to date, meaning Em would have to sneak around with any boyfriends (which does end up happening later on). As such, she was taking precautions in the best way she could think of: if her daughter DID have a secret boyfriend, she’d be too embarrassed by her dorky, childish underwear to get her pants off with the guy.
• Harsher in Hindsight: At one point Jocelyn Quivrin's character states that he doesn't need to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle, as he's not worried about the danger. A year after the film's release, Quivrin was killed in a car accident at just thirty years old.
• Retroactive Recognition: Julien was one of the earliest film roles of Pierre Niney.
• Spiritual Successor: To La Boum (1980), particularly since both films star Sophie Marceau (although in very different roles). Were the names of the characters not different, this movie could even be seen as being about a now-adult Vic trying to raise a family.
• Values Dissonance: The differences in attitudes toward teen sex and sexuality in general couldn't be more stark between the French original and the American remake.
