YMMV / Johnny Nero Action Hero

Go To

  • Awesome Music: Most of the music, but the rock music (especially in Andrealin' Rush mode) is cool as hell.
  • Awesome: Video Game Levels: Those who believe Evil Is Cool will love the intro to the Curse of the Mummy King comic. After the comic-styled cutscene where one of the professors telling Johnny that the workers believe that they think the Eye of Kings' a curse, you get a great shot of the mummy busting out of a sarcophagus. As Johnny runs through the sliding tomb doors, he does his badass barrel roll. And the fast-paced Egyptian music starts up too. You only get few seconds before the game starts thrusting enemies at you, but it's all still deliciously creepy and badass.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: The fast-paced gameplay, cartoony Comic Book art-style, and cool songs that makes the game feel like in an action movie. The fact the game seems to be an Affectionate Parody of action films and action comic books only adds to the demented fun.
  • Goddamned Bats: Featured in he first-two comics are robo-spiders, scorpions and heqets (Egyptian frogs).
  • Nausea Fuel: Curse of the Mummy King comic: Mummies followed by a spiked gate followed by rock monsters followed by a mask of Amon-Ra.
  • Nightmare Fuel: This game breathes and lives this trope to the nth degree. That said, many people seem to have a fond memory of The Mask of Amon-Ra, the boss of the Curse of the Mummy King comic.
  • Special Effects Failure: While pretty good job capturing the feel of a comic book by having hand-drawn comic-like cutscenes, it suffers from few errors, especially Johnny lacks a beard in Ghost Town comic.
  • Spiritual Adaptation: It is literally a light gun game adaptation of The Punisher that mixes elements of Spider-Man and Fantastic Four with Affectionate Parody of 80s/90s action films.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: Curse of the Mummy King's main theme is very similar to the opening theme from the horror-comedy classic Beetlejuice except played with Egyptian instruments.
  • That One Boss: Robo-Boss, with a hard-to-hit weak point (it's the armor) which the game hardly gives you any time at all to draw a bead on as it fires rockets at you.
