YMMV / Helluva Boss S1E2 "Loo Loo Land"

• Alternative Character Interpretation:
  • When Blitzo offers to take the first watch over Stolas and Octavia, he winks at Moxxie and Millie when he tells them to "have fun". Does he actually expect them to have fun at the park, or did he pick up on Moxxie's discomfort and use the situation to mess with him while still looking like a good boss? Or, given his preoccupation with their sex lives, did he mean for them to "have fun" as a euphemism which Millie took literally?
  • Is Robo Fizz a huge jerkass, or is he just uncharacteristically catty towards Blitzo? Most of his actions, like scaring baby Octavia and getting carried away at the show, are incidental at best and don't leave anyone seriously harmed. The worst thing Fizz does is attack Blitzo and unwittingly set off the Loo Loo Land fire, which he only does after Blitzo escalates the situation by shooting at him over playground insults that could have easily been shrugged off. "OZZIE'S" reveals that the real Fizz and Blitzo used to be close in the past so the bitterness could be based on their past.
  • With The Reveal of how much Stella hated Stolas and didn't bother to remotely hide it even before she began trying to murder him, did Octavia really never notice how toxic her parent's marriage truly was? Or did she and was trying to pretend otherwise and was moreso mad that Stolas' affair with Blitzo forced all the issues out into the open in such a way that Octavia could no longer pretend it wasn't happening?
• Alternative Joke Interpretation: Is Fuck You Dad actually the name of the band, or was Octavia lashing out in the moment, and attempting to walk it back by after feeling guilty for insulting a father she genuinely cares for? Or alternatively, it isn't a real band, and she lies about it out of spite, to try and pull one over on Stolas while she's fuming at him? Or is it more of the case of all the above?
• Franchise Original Sin: While it's a heartwarming and funny episode, "Loo Loo Land" has many of the hallmarks that would make the series much more divisive in the second season, such as IMP taking a job outside their usual profession, Loona having little to no screentime, an increase in character-based drama, and greater focus on Stolas and Blitzo's relationship at the expense of the other characters. Fortunately, all of these aspects are well-balanced in this episode, but not so much in later ones.
• Harsher in Hindsight: Blitzo accidentally burning down Loo Loo Land becomes a lot less chaotically funny after learning that a circus fire he accidentally caused resulted in Fizzarolli being horribly disfigured, his mother dying and essentially lead to his current miserable existence, especially since both conflagrations were made of green Hellfire.
• Moe: Octavia as a child, particularly when she yawns during the lullaby.
• Most Wonderful Sound: Child Octavia yawning. The image and sound, in addition to the very soothing lullaby her father sings, just makes you want to cuddle her.
• Squick: Stolas calls Blitzo "my big-dicked Blitzy" while his own kid is sitting within earshot. Going by their mutual Spit Take, neither Octavia nor Blitzo are happy about that.
