  • Cliché Storm: The film tries very little to distance itself from stereotypes: the black funny guy, the evil Soviet ice queen, and a ton of other elements from famous horror films from The '80s. Whether it being an intentional homage works or not depends on the viewer.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: The film's existence itself was for the creatures and such.
  • Special Effects Failure: Some of the effects don't hold up too well, though in part it's due to having an extremely low budget, even for an indie film. How well they work vary from person to person.
  • Spiritual Adaptation: In addition to its direct homage to The Thing (1982), it can also be seen as this to Resident Evil: Revelations, between its ship-based setting, its once-human aquatic monsters, and the shared twist of a female spy aboard the ship getting infected and turned into a monster whose head opens up into a jaw.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: For many, the practical effects are extremely good given the film's budget was only $380,000. Keep in mind many Syfy Channel Original Movies have a budget approaching a million.
