- Catharsis Factor: After Mr. Petrovic spends the whole movie deriding Andy and his accomplishments, it is both satisfying and touching to see how stunned (and then proud) he is after watching Andy pull off a brilliant football play of his own to win the final game after Gus seemingly blunders.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Bumbling Henchman Duo Spinner and Crankcase take a while to show up, but are two of the best liked characters for having some hilarious Butt-Monkey moments while also managing the occasional crafty Not-So-Harmless Villain trick.
- One-Scene Wonder: Richard Kiel appears as a motorist who Jerk Jock Rob has a Bullying the Dragon moment with. His cameo is one of the few scenes that Roger Ebert praised about the film.
- Romantic Plot Tumor: The romance between Andy and Debbie is often seen as unoriginal and a diversion from the more interesting plot lines.
- Signature Scene: Gus getting loose and making a mess in a hotel and then in a grocery store while the Bumbling Henchman Duo chase him is one of the better-known parts of the film.
