- Growing the Beard: Generally considered to be the point where the Eighth Doctor Adventures found their own unique voice, after a brief period of trying to find a consistent tone. Miles also established the seeds of the metaplot that would dominate the entire series.
- Hilarious in Hindsight/Older Than They Think: Multiple concepts from this book would reappear later through other writers.
- The idea of the Doctor being a "scar" through time and the future death of the Doctor being weaponized turned up again in Steven Moffat's tenure, especially in "The Name of the Doctor".
- We get a brief glimpse of the Enemy who are fighting and winning a time war against the Time Lords. They're described as humanoid and wearing a parody of Time Lord ceremonial dress... which would be quite a good fit for the Cyberman-Time Lord hybrids seen in Chris Chibnall's 2020 finale "The Timeless Children"
