YMMV / Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning

Go To

  • Anti-Climax Boss: The only threat BigUkkomon poses is that it is trying to give every human on the planet a Digimon Partner against their will. Despite its massive size and being a Mega level, it's not that strong, and no new evolutions are required to defeat it. The only Digimon it defeats is Angewomon, but Silphymon and Shakkoumon don't have much trouble with its giant tentacles. Imperialdramon: Fighter Mode is capable of pulling the massive monstrosity with relatively little difficulty and destroys BigUkkomon with a single Giga Death. This makes BigUkkomon arguably the weakest final boss of its level from the Adventure continuity, as even Cherubimon could only be defeated from the inside. The billions of Digi-Eggs from BigUkkomon never even hatch.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: People who were dissatisfied with Digimon Adventure tri. and Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna because of Meiko and Menoa taking away focus and screentime from the old characters (and arguably even before that the same could be said about Willis in Hurricane Touchdown!, as well as characters from movies outside the Digimon Adventure continuity, such as Minami in Battle of Adventurers, Kotemon and Bearmon in Island of Lost Digimon, and Rhythm in Ultimate Power! Activate Burst Mode!!), are tired of Lui being yet another character of that kind. Some think it's even worse, since Lui is the sole focus of the movie, unlike Meiko and Menoa, although his character writing and development mitigates the problem for some.
  • The Woobie: Lui suffered from an abusive childhood and a broken family, but Ukkomon's desire to make him happy allowed him to escape that situation for seven years. When he learns the truth about the nature of Ukkomon's wish granting, he's horrified, his family ends up broken again, and he wasn't able to move on from that for the next nine years.
