Some think it's even worse, since Lui is the sole focus of the movie, unlike Meiko and Menoa, although his character writing and development mitigates the problem for some.

* TheWoobie: Lui suffered from an abusive childhood and a broken family, but Ukkomon's desire to make him happy allowed him to escape that situation for seven years. When he learns the truth about the nature of Ukkomon's wish granting, he's horrified, his family ends up broken again, and he wasn't able to move on from that for the next 9 years.

It hasn't even been one week since release so let's avoid anything saying Contested Sequel and etc, it's way too early to be adding those kind of entries. As for They Wasted A Perfectly Good Plot, the plot has to be setup for it to be wasted. At no point was it setup in the movie that they would digivolve, so it isn't a case of this. Although I'm thinking maybe there's another trope to cover it under.

* ContestedSequel: While it's commonly agreed that the film itself isn't bad and that Lui and Ukkomon aren't bad characters, many have voiced their disappointment in regards to this film being a continuation of the ''Adventure'' continuity, due the film's focus being entirely on Lui and Ukkomon rather than the established old cast which the audience were going in for. The character-focused drama also resulted in very little action within the movie, [[spoiler:Ukkomon being a less threatening opponent than past enemies, as neither of the ''02'' needed new evolution to defeat it]], making it an anti-climatic battle. It doesn't help that this is yet another film that has a new character that takes away screentime from the old characters.

* TheyWastedaPerfectlyGoodPlot: With ''Anime/DigimonAdventureTri'' giving the rest of the Adventure Digidestined their Mega forms, and ''Anime/DigimonAdventureLastEvolutionKizuna'' giving Agumon and Gabumon new forms, plenty were expecting the 02 kids to get new evolutions in this movie, most expecting Veemon, Wormmon, Armadillomon, and Hawkmon to finally get their own Ultimate and Mega stages. [[spoiler:None of them get any new forms, and all they use to defeat Ukkomon is the same DNA Digivolutions they've always used]].
