YMMV / Batman: The Animated Series E18 "Beware the Gray Ghost"

• He Really Can Act: We all loved Adam West for his usual style of acting, but if you want to hear a legitimately good performance from him, watch this episode.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: Bruce hands the titular character's actor what is presumably a home video re-release of the long-lost Gray Ghost serial, probably on VHS. Thing is, the design of the box, specifically the blue borders, makes it look exactly like a modern-day Blu-ray case!
• Inferred Holocaust: The Mad Bomber's large-scale terrorism is such a similar phenomenon, where we also see a downtown skyscraper fall. He strikes at night, but there must certainly be significant collateral damage.
• Narm Charm: While the idea that the Gray Ghost inspired Batman works really well, Batman having a shrine to the show built in the Batcave is frankly just silly. But nonetheless endearing.
• Product Placement: A People Magazine cover poster featuring the Gray Ghost is behind Simon as he does his signing.
• Special Effect Failure: Bruce Timm himself names a shot from this episode as the worst case of the issue they always had portraying the Batmobile driving on hills, where it seems to turn to rubber as it completely hugs the slanting ground.
• Unintentional Period Piece:
  • Nowadays, Bruce could find out all he needed to know about The Gray Ghost from IMDB, Wikipedia or even us! Then again, the series being supposedly lost means there would probably not be much info on it out there beyond a brief general synopsis, let alone any info on "The Mad Bomber" specifically. It'd be almost impossible to find prints of any of the episodes to watch-notably, Batman has to borrow Simon Trent's copy since the original master version was destroyed.
  • A more straightforward example is the fact that Bruce goes to a video store in his search for The Gray Ghost show. With the advent of streaming services in the late 2000s and early 2010s, video stores died a slow and painful death. Hell, this entire series is able to be streamed on Netflix in certain regions.
