• Questionable Casting: Many critics took jabs at the singing and dancing ability of the main cast, particularly Cybill Shepherd. Of the main cast, only Madeline Kahn (Kitty) and Duilio Del Prete (Johnny Spanish) had actual professional singing experience, while Shepherd (Brooke) only had a singing career post-1974, and Burt Reynolds hadn't done much in the way of music before or since.
• Retroactive Recognition: Noted character actor M. Emmet Walsh has a minor role as a doorman.
• Vindicated by History: At least as an example of being So Bad, It's Good.
  • Or as a pretty good comedy (the intentional variety - there's quite a bit of legitimately funny dialogue), even if it fails as a musical.
