YMMV / A Wild Badfic Appeared! Commentaries

Go To

  • Adorkable:
    • Erika is a snarky, nerdy, tomboyish, autistic shapeshifter who can turn into a Flying squirrel-like Pokémon and Hormone-Addled Teenager who talks too fast.
    • Robin is this in some of his sillier moments, as well as in his general obliviousness of some elements of modern society, especially in earlier episodes.
    • Rock can be this due to his general naivety and cheerfulness.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: In Episode 4, everybody starts simultaneously drinking out of their theater cups for no reason. Subverted, as it is soon lampshaded.
Sonic: Wait, why are we doing this?
    Erika: *stops* *shrugs* Beats me!
    • This trope is mentioned by name in Episode 11, in which Erika explains to the other party members, after which Ness remarks that it describes 90% of the fic.
    • The "arc" of Sara-Sue appearing, or at least some part of her, in Episodes 24 and 25. She appears at the end of Episode 24, seemingly being set up as an Arc Villain... only to be curbstomped at the beginning of Episode 25, and never be mentioned again.
  • Heartwarming Moments: This somewhat cheesy status update posted on the day of Satoru Iwata's funeral, depicting the entire mansion, as well as previously cut Smashers grieving and paying respect for him. Even Ganondorf begrudgingly shows his respect. Also doubles as major Tear Jerker, the rain pouring loudly onto the roof (which isn't only for dramatic effect; a typhoon actually did hit Japan on the day of Iwata's funeral) all the normally cheerful characters and some of the stoics crying or being struck speechless, with even Crazy Hand being strangely silent, all of the characters offering flowers (or food in the case of Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, and Kirby) from their homeworlds, some of personal significance (e.g. Lucas offers a Sunflower and Roy offers an Illian white flower, the favorite flowers of their respective deceased mothers), the Military Salute from Snake, Pit, Samus, Fox, Falco, followed by a medieval-style one from the Fire Emblem characters and a Stab the Sky from Link and Toony, and especially poor innocent Rock asking why humans have to break so easily, how sad Kirby is, and Ness's voice cracking as he tries not to cry in front of everyone. And then Lucas starts singing "Smiles and Tears".
RIP Satoru Iwata 1959-2015. We now all understand. May you live on in the hearts of all of us and those you helped create. Thank you.
  • Tear Jerker: The beginning to Episode 7. Considering the humorous tone of the commentary, which resumes right after, it can be pretty jarring. The status update submitted the same week, mentioned above, did not help matters. Poor Ness...
