What Could Have Been / Spectacular Seven

Go To

The post-scripts after each volume of Spectacular Seven reveal a lot of changes that were made during the writing process.

  • The role of the dark benefactor of Moondancer's family was originally intended to be a different Canon Character All Along in King Sombra, but this was changed after seeing a different canon character had a better motivation to antagonize the Spectacular Seven.
  • Spring break, Moondancer's Faceā€“Heel Turn and prom night were all originally going to happen in Volume I, but were pushed forward to Volume II. Prom night was, at one point, supposed to be where Sunset broke the spell she'd been placed under by the Elements of Harmony in Long Road to Friendship.
  • Moondancer was originally going to be part of the curse breaking in Long Road to Friendship. Also, Moondancer was even more selfish and petty in the first drafts of the story, but it got scaled back.
  • Sunset was originally going to be able to transform into her demon form at will and have full control over it. After the release of Friendship Games and the "My Past is Not Today" music video, this was changed.
  • Lamia's introduction was set for Volume II, but got pushed up to Volume I.
  • The Sirens were going to come back in Volume II, but the author felt the plot was getting too crowded to add them. So their reappearance was pushed back to Volume III instead.
  • Someone was going to be Killed Off for Real in Volume II, but they ended up spared.
  • Sunset's breakdown in Volume III was suggested to be removed by the editor, but the author disagreed and kept it in. Albinocorn said it was one of the few times they ultimately disagreed with their editors.
  • It took more than three months to write the chapter where Rainbow goes on a Two-Timer Date with Fluttershy and Soarin, because the author wanted to avoid Unfortunate Implications or queerbaiting.
  • The final battle of Volume III was originally going to take place in the same hotel where Shining Armor and Cadence had their wedding, but that created so many Plot Holes that the location of the fight was moved elsewhere.
  • Sunset was going to give Lamia the Twilight plushie that Sunset used to have conversations with herself, but this ultimately didn't happen.
  • Volume III was originally going to contain some introspection from Twilight about how she's biased in Sunset's favor, because she never saw the Alpha Bitch attitude that Sunset previously had, with Twilight wondering if she would still look at Sunset the same way if she had known. However, the author said they couldn't find a good place for it in Volume III, and once the volume was over, felt that it was too late to address it in the story.
  • Albinocorn toyed with the idea of having Adagio and Aria be redeemed while Sonata remained evil. They ultimately dropped the idea as they couldn't find a good plot justification for it. They also admitted that it would be contrarian simply for the sake of being contrarian of fan expectations.
