What Could Have Been / Random Drama Series

Go To

Throughout the Random Drama Series, the author has revealed many things that have changed, including couples, placements in seasons and other things.

Island
  • In "The Big Sleep", the author briefly considered having Heather knock Shawn out and delay Alejandro's villainous reveal, but couldn't think of anything he liked that made sense.
  • Amy's elimination in "The Sucky Outdoors" was originally caused by Sammy getting her sent home so when she returned in "No Pain, No Game", Alejandro'd use the drama to set up Leshawna's elimination as her dating Harold meant he couldn't safely flirt to manipulate her. Additionally, Heather was originally meant to return so there'd be a more obvious antagonist, but Amy fit the role better considering the cast.
  • Kitsune was meant to be eliminated in "If You Can't Take the Heat" instead of Sky, but the author decided against it since there would be no comic relief character otherwise (plus every OC would have been eliminated in a row.) Had he stuck with this storyline, Sky would have lasted until "After the Dock of Shame" where Chris would ask Victor who'd he like to be eliminated and he'd choose Alejandro. Someone would ask why not Sky and it would have played out like it did in the final version.
  • "Trial by Tri-Armed Triathalon": There were scenes where Trent would lose his temper so the decision to boot him was less out of nowhere. Plus, Alejandro and Kitsune were supposed to win and the former would convince the others to ax Trent because he'd get the most sympathy votes, but Sammy was the flaw in that plan.

Action

  • Gwen and Trent were meant to compete in and be the first boots in Action, but were dropped for Mike and Zoey so as to include foreshadowing in the bonus clips.
  • "The Fall of the House of Gaffer" (the Randomverse counterpart of "The Sand Witch Project") was meant to be where Shawn went home instead of Harold, but the eliminations were swapped to further along the villain plots.
  • "Million Dollar Babies" had Leshawna bash just Harold, only going along with it to avoid losing the respect of her family. That made her too sympathetic and would've worked against future plans so as per canon she disses everyone, including those voted off between "One Flu Over The Cuckoos" and there.
  • Heather's animal buddy in "Top Dog" was originally a Persian cat as it was the stereotypical villain's pet in movies.

World Tour

  • Shawn was considered to compete in World Tour, but that meant either Malcolm or Tyler would only compete in one season so he was swapped out.
  • Scarlett's friendship with Victor wasn't originally included in World Tour until the author realized it was perfect for making her sympathetic.
    • Regarding Victor's elimination, Scarlett was supposed to injure him during their confrontation but their friendship prevented the idea of it being an accident. Additionally, Noah's return made the author feel that the 'sing or be eliminated' rule lost a lot of validity. But since Victor was meant to go home without a vote to justify Scarlett staying in the game, it was decided that he wouldn't sing when he was told.
  • Matthew's coming out was meant to occur during "Newf Kids on the Rock" where he let it slip and would've used it to trick everyone into thinking Kitsune was homophobic but couldn't find a place for it.
  • Malcolm was considered to return after winning the Second Chance challenge to give closure on his crush on Sierra but Blaineley was chosen since the following episodes needed another villainous player.
  • Earlier drafts of season three had Zoey last up to "African Lying Safari" with her elimination being caused by her single-minded determination that she could bring Mike back despite everyone else telling her he was long gone.
  • At one point, Mal was going to get a personal Villain Song sung to the tune of "In the Hall of the Mountain King", but the author realized after writing it that it was awful and it was switched out for "Clash of the Rivals" instead.
  • The author briefly considered having Sierra and Scarlett hook up but decided against it since Sierra originally liked Harold and he didn't want it to seem like the reason Sierra was helping Scarlett was so she could Settle for Sibling.
  • Duncan was a potential helper choice for Scarlett in "Hawaiian Punch", only helping her so he could stick it to Mal. Sammy was requested to be one of Mal's helpers, but was denied since she didn't participate in the season.
  • The author almost didn't go through with Scarlett's Redemption Quest story arc, in which case the finale would have instead been Zoey vs. Mal/Mike.

Revenge of the Island

  • Gary was originally the first boot this season but because of the popularity of the OCs in the first generation, the author kept him on. While Ella and Eva were considered, Sam was the most expendable since all he had to offer in terms of plot was his video game withdrawal, and the author didn't want to keep him around for one reference over someone else who has more potential.
  • Beardo and Ella's relationship and Cody's rivalry with Jo initially weren't included.
    • Beardo's development was mostly centered around him slowly becoming less shy and more sure of himself which led to him blowing the challenge in "Runaway Model" and getting sent home for it. The relationship meant a new scenario was needed.
  • Cody was planned to be the official winner of Revenge of the Island, but the author thought it'd be too obvious especially since readers had expected him to go all the way. The elimination order was switched so he'd be notched in "A Mine is a Terrible Thing to Waste" to avoid him becoming like he was in the show. As a result, Angel was eliminated in the next episode while Ezekiel went home in "Grand Chef Auto".
    • Additionally, had Cody been the winner, he would've faced off against Jo in the finale, Natasha would have placed fourth, and Lightning in sixth with a more direct betrayal from Lily. Bridgette was still going to place third because Cody seems easier to beat than her. Once Cody's elimination was moved up, he was replaced by Lightning and the finale was set to be a battle of the jocks, with Bridgette still being third because Jo wanted to crush Lightning in the finale only to be swapped out for Natasha so the finale was an inversion on canon's Brains vs. Brawn.

All-Stars

  • Several characters were considered for the All-Stars roster with Leshawna, Sky and Sugar being potential members for the Vultures, DJ, Zoey, Tyler and Ezekiel for the Hamsters and Sierra for both teams. All of them were dropped for one reason or another; Leshawna and Sky were considered for the spot of Token Good Teammate but quickly rejected, Sugar was dropped for Mike due to Mal being more villainous, DJ would've been the first one eliminated, Zoey was highly anticipated but the author felt she didn't have that great an impact on the game (although she was the fourth choice for a female from the first generation, only three could be chosen), Tyler was replaced by Victor, and Ezekiel was replaced by Angel just before the first chapter was written. As for Sierra, she was also considered as the Vultures' Token Good Teammate on the grounds of blowing up the plane, which was quickly scrapped while on the Hamsters, she was in Victor's position of being the first boot for being a hero during her short tenure; however, the author wasn't sure what to do with her and since he swapped Ezekiel for Angel, he needed to lose an original female and both Kitsune and Scarlett were nonnegotiable.
    • Before Ezekiel was swapped for Angel, the planning stages of the season had him swapped to the Villains in "Saving Private Leechball" and forming an alliance with Matthew only to accidentally destroy Chris's mansion in "You Regatta Be Kidding Me" by batting away a firecracker in a panic. Chris would've disqualified him, starting a running gag of Zeke being the merge boot.
  • Alejandro and Kitsune's relationship was originally planned to be revealed in season three but the author feared recreating the canon love square so it was scrapped and uses to create tension between Al and Heather in season five.
  • Sugar was the original threat in "Alien vs Competitor" in retaliation for being snubbed on two different seasons until a reviewer mentioned Blaineley.

Pahkitew Island

  • Cameron was slated to be the first boot in the planning stages, then the second or third before the author gave him his plot with Justin.
  • Originally, Courtney was the main antagonist of season six and would've lasted to third place with none of her redeeming qualities, which made for a pretty flat character. Once Katie was made the season's final villain and her romance with Brick was born, Courtney was given some much needed Character Development.
  • Before the author decided to have Matthew return in "Blast From the Past", he considered using Izzy's "Explosivo" persona to cause said events.

The Ridonculous Race

  • When the spinoff was being drafted, the "Sweethearts" were an original team meant to clash with the Ice Dancers. The author then decided to make Angel and Bridgette said team to make up for their past losses.
    • When the Sweethearts were eliminated in "Brazilian Pain Forest", it was revealed that they were meant to reach the final four and their plotline centered around their attempts to propose: however, due to several complications with said plot along with the potential in keeping the Vegans in the game, their plot was cut and they became an early elimination.

All-Stars 2

  • Back when All-Stars 2 was in planning, Dawn was intended to become Contessa's girlfriend but a reviewer assumed he was teasing the latter hooking up with Olivia who was originally paired with Justin (with the author thinking it was too stale.) He decided to roll with "Olivessa" since it came more naturally, scrapping Dawn's plot for the season and causing her to be eliminated two episodes earlier than intended.
  • Scott was originally going to return in All-Stars 2 just to be the first boot, but the author left him out so he could be the Big Bad of Redemption.
  • Geoff and Katie's reconciliation was meant to occur in "The Count of Monte Carlo" but got pushed back an episode since there wasn't any good place for them to interact.
  • Olivia and Contessa were intended to hook up at the merge before the author had their confession occur in "Hey, Seoul Sister" so it wouldn't drag on.
  • The Goths, Crimson and Ennui, were originally intended to be Dracula and his assistant in "Return of the Drac", but were swapped out for the interns.

Redemption

  • Leonard was the potential first boot along with Gary in Redemption due to lack of plot. The author went with the latter after flipping a coin.
  • Britney and Rodney's eliminations were switched, woth Rodney originally going home in "Trust in Me" by being tricked into using the Protection idol on Amy.
