P-47: The Phantom Fighter (or ''Freedom Fighter'' in Japan) is a Horizontal Scrolling Shooter game by Jaleco in 1988.

Originally an Arcade Game for the first title in the Jaleco Mega System 1, it was ported to various home systems. It received a sequel called P-47 Aces in 1995. The game takes place in World War II, as you shoot planes, tanks, trains, etc.

It can now be played online here.

P-47: The Phantom Fighter contains examples of:

  • 1-Up: You can get a extra life if you shoot down a item-carrying helicopter or shoot an invisible space.
  • Battleship Raid: The 4th and the final stage has this.
  • Excuse Plot: It takes place in World War II obviously.
  • One-Hit-Point Wonder: Player's plane is downed in one hit from any attack.
