Land-io is an .io Game created by Discord which can be accessed from the app's "Activities" menu within voice chat.

In the game, players must compete with each other to claim parts of the board by encircling them. Players can also eliminate each other, thus taking control of the eliminated player's territory. Whoever has the most territory at the end of the game is the winner.

Unlike most other Discord Activities, this game features public lobbies in addition to private ones, thus allowing players to play with other Discord users even if they're not in the same server.

Land-io contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Boring, but Practical:
    • Claiming land through relatively small squares carries a far lower risk of being killed, as if there are no other players currently visible on screen, they will not have enough time to reach the trail before it disappears.
    • It is impossible for players to die while on their own land, so staying on said land is an effective way to play defensively.
  • Collision Damage: Running into another player's trail kills them.
  • Color-Coded Multiplayer: Each player has a distinct color, and their territory is colored accordingly. In general, Fungi players are green, Lava players are red, Crystal players are purple, and Water players are blue. Different players of the same element are generally given different shades of the same color, though some, such as brown for Bark and yellow for Sulphur, differ significantly from their parent elements.
  • Faceless Eye: Each player is a square creature with a single eye.
  • Player Elimination: By running into another player's trail while they're trying to make a claim, that player will be eliminated from the game. Players can also eliminate themselves this way, in which case their land will become unclaimed. Players can rejoin before the current game ends, albeit without their hard-earned land.
  • Rising Up The Food Chain Game: When a player gets eliminated, all of their territory will be transferred to the player who killed them, allowing the killer to obtain larger sections of the board than they would otherwise be able to through their own claims.
  • Timed Mission: Each game lasts up to three minutes.
