Trivia / The House of Flowers

Go To

  • Actor-Inspired Element: Cecilia Suarez came up with the idea for Paulina's slow speech, which became her defining feature and a breakout of the whole show.
  • Creator Backlash: A minor case with Paco León as María José. While he likes his character, he said that he understood the controversy brought by having a cisgender man portray a transgender woman (even though it was reported that after the show aired trans people had warmed to the character), and said that while he would continue as María José in the show for the sake of continuity, he will not accept more trans roles onward so as to promote more trans actors.
  • Dawson Casting: Not noticeable, but Paulina is a whole ten years younger than her actress, whereas everyone else is quite close in age.
  • Hide Your Pregnancy: With Aislinn Derbez in season 1; she said filming was quite uncomfortable and she wouldn’t have taken the role if she thought she'd get pregnant.
  • Meaningful Release Date: The funeral episode was saved for release on Día de Muertos.
  • Meta Casting: Actress Veronica Castro was connected with pop star Luis Miguel - in Netflix's series about the singer released around the same time as this series, his teenage role is played by Luis de la Rosa, who here plays Bruno (Castro's character's grandson). As an additional note, one of Luis Miguel's longtime partners was Mariana Yazbek, the aunt of Dario Yazbek Bernal, who here plays Julian. (Both Castro and Yazbek appear in the Luis Miguel series as characters played by other people). Made even funnier when the characters can't get Luis Miguel to play at the anniversary party in the show (and Bruno is the only member of the family not to show), when half the cast could well have that power.
  • Production Posse: Manolo Caro once again works with Cecilia Suarez; other actors who have appeared in his films multiple times are Juan Pablo Medina, Mariana Treviño, and Natasha Dupeyron.
  • Trans Character, Cis Actor: Trans woman María José is played by cis male actor Paco León (though Paco León is bisexual, making it an odd case where they're both this and Queer Character, Queer Actor).
  • Real-Life Relative: Siblings Paco and María León playing María José and Purificación Riquelme. Which just makes it squickier when they kiss.
  • Same Language Dub: Cecilia Suárez, Darío Yazbek Bernal, and Juan Pablo Medina all dub their own characters into English for the English dub of the show.
  • Separated-at-Birth Casting: Isabel Burr, who plays a young Virgina de la Mora, looks very similar to Verónica Castro (who plays the older Virginia) when she was younger. Burr has in fact previously portrayed Castro herself in a 2016 TV biopic about Mexican singer Juan Gabriel.
  • Troubled Production: Production of the first season hit some snags of varying gravity. Filming was halted for several weeks in September and October 2017 after the 2017 Puebla earthquake, plus Cecilia Suárez (Paulina) was also injured in the earthquake and could not return to set for a month after production resumed. The scene where Julián and Diego kiss in a sports store also brought problems, as the owners of the store it was first going to be filmed, upon learning that the scene involved a gay kiss, shut down filming, because they did not want the brand to be associated with it, and the scene was later shot at another store.
