- Acclaimed Flop: The anime was mostly praised by the few who watched it and is regraded as one of the best Kirara anime by many for how different it feels from most of the Kirara catalog, but sadly, it became one of Kirara's biggest commercial failures, selling only better then RPG Real Estate from the previous year, ending any chance of a second season.
- Creator's Oddball:
- In the Comicspace interview linked under What Could Have Been, Rasuko Okuma implied her editor steered her original ideas towards the Manga Time Kirara "house style" of fluffy yonkoma. But, by the end of volume 2, that's all gone out the window and the series has heavy dramatic elements that really stand out from its peers like Slow Start and Yuyushiki. Now, it almost seems like it belongs in Manga Time Kirara Forward, Houbunsha's "maturer" brand, alongside similarly-dramatic stuff like Ha Na Ya Ma Ta.
- This notion was noted by Seria Fukagawa, Yuu's actress, towards the end of dubbing for the anime, who called the series much different compared to Kirara's usual output.
- Defictionalization: The "Alien" and "Earthling" T-shirts from chapter 9 were made into real clothing for the anime's merchandizing push.
- Inspiration for the Work:
- Before becoming a mangaka, Okuma worked as a child counselor with children with disabilities and developmental issues, while studying research on the matter in university and volunteering in schools as a part-time lecturer. The series itself is based on her experiences, as the characters were created in mind with her studies and efforts.
- In the aforementioned Comicspace interview, Okuma credits Hidamari Sketch (the first Kirara manga to be adapted into an anime) as a major inspiration for becoming a mangaka, as the series had introduced her to Manga Time Kirara.
- The works of Cherry-Arai and Akira Kosai, alongside CoroCoro Comic, were also inspirations.
- Portmanteau Series Nickname: HoshiTele.
- Production Posse: The anime adaptation is being made by director Kaori, writer Natsuko Takahashi, and composer Asuka Sakai, who also adapted Manga Time Kirara sister series Yuyushiki and Comic Girls, as well as Ribon OVA Nagareboshi Lens.
- What Could Have Been: Originally, Yuu would've been a more mature, mentor-like character who helps Umika out of kindness. At the suggestion of Rasuko's editor, Yuu's personality was radically altered to become the exact opposite of Umika's. The more mature, calm tone Yuu uses when telling Umika there is a light inside of her is a holdover from her earlier characterization.
- Word of God: When Okuma conceptualized the story, Umika's desire to go into space was caused by her classmates bullying her by calling her an "alien", to the point she begins to believe she is one, and is further encouraged to travel to space to meet the rest of her kind. Manga Time Kirara's editors rejected the pitch as it was deemed too dark, but Okuma states that "doesn't mean that it's not canon". Given that Kirara seem to have relaxed their policies on bullying (such as chapter 46.1), it may yet be incorporated into the manga proper.
- Working Title: Hello Blue and Nice to Meet You, Alien were considered titles for the series. Stardust Rocket nearly became the finalized title, before the head of Kirara suggested combining the words of stardust and telepath.
