Trivia / Shaft (2019)

Go To

  • Billing Displacement: As expected, Samuel L. Jackson (Shaft II) is the top billed actor. JJ is the true main protagonist in terms of the plot but his actor, Jessie T. Usher, is billed second. Richard Roundtree is billed third, despite Shaft Sr.'s limited screen time.
  • Dawson Casting: This movie establishes that Shaft II is 60 years old, meaning he was 40 during the events of Shaft. Jackson was 52 when that movie premiered.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • The Latin American Spanish dub replaced all the voice cast from the previous films, including the voice actors of the three Shafts. In this case, this is quite justified, because the voice actors of these three characters were either unavailable (like Blas Garcia, who voiced Shaft Sr. in the original film), or deceased (Alfonso Ramirez, who voiced Shaft Sr. in the second Mexican dub of the first film, and Luis Alfonso Padilla, who voiced Shaft II in Shaft (2000))
    • In the Japanese dub, Hiroshi Naka replaced the late Yoshisada Sakaguchi as Shaft Sr.
  • Role Reprise:
  • Sequel Gap: Comes out 19 years after 2000's Shaft, and 48 years after 1971's original Shaft.
  • Underage Casting: The second Shaft, inherited from the 2000 film (Richard Roundtree is only six years older than Samuel L. Jackson). Despite the 2000 film having established them as uncle and nephew, which would make it somewhat more believable, here they are retconned into being father and son.
  • Working Title: The film was originally announced as "Son of Shaft".
