Trivia / Robotboy

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Laurence Bouvard voices Robotboy, Robotgirl, Lola, Bambi, Gus' mom and Miumiu among others.
    • Lorraine Pilkington voices Tommy and his mother.
    • Rupert Degas voices Gus, Constantine, Kurt and Affenkugel among others.
  • Adored by the Network:
    • The series used to have a lot of airtime on the Cartoon Network during the mid-to-late 2000s, primarily the British version of the network.
    • The show got a lot of airtime on the Italian feed, too, but in the dead hours.
  • Creator Backlash: Jan Van Rijsselberge isn't a big fan of season 2, as he feels Bob Camp "didn't get" the show and the episode quality was inconsistent.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices:
    • Laurence Bouvard as Robotboy
    • Lorraine Pilkington as Tommy
    • Lewis MacLeod as Bjorn's Mother and Dr. Culpepper
  • Executive Meddling: This was why Bjorn, Bjornbot and Donnie had redesigns, the former two were made to look more "menacing" while Donnie's shirt was changed by a request from Cartoon Network.
  • Fake American: Most of the characters (including Tommy's family) have American accents voiced by British, Scottish and Irish actors. The only exceptions are characters played by Laurence Bouvard, who is an American.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Only the first season is on DVD. However, only one English release exists, which is a Cartoon Network Christmas compilation DVD, which included "Christmas Evil". The show had a position on Cartoon Network UK's overnight timeslots, but has since been removed. But luckily, every episode is officially available for free on YouTube in both English and French. As of 2019, the US rights to the show are currently owned by Starz. The whole series is now on Starz's website, and on StarzEncore Family.
  • Money, Dear Boy: Why Bob Camp directed the show according to Larry Hama.
  • The Other Darrin: In "Momma's Boy", Laurence Bouvard voices Tommy's mom instead of Lorraine Pilkington.
  • Out of Order: Every single episode except "Six Million Euro Man" aired outside of production order.
  • Screwed by the Network: The show eventually became this on the American Cartoon Network later in its run, with the show getting little-to-no-advertising and reruns and being moved around different time-slots without warning.
  • Troubled Production: While the first season went well production-wise, the same can't be said for the second one. Alphanim felt the stories needed better pacing, so they hired Bob Camp to work on the show, who did it for the money, evident in how the season feels rather different from the first in style and tone.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • When the show began development in early 2000s, Robotboy was a prototype robot three kids received as a gift from their Japanese uncle. Eventually, The Japanese uncle became Professor Moshimo, while the kids were retooled into Tommy, Gus and Lola.
    • Robert Mittenhal stated that, if there were a season 3, they may have redeemed Protoboy. However, when asked, Jan stated he wasn't interested in Protoboy reforming.
  • Word of God: Series creator Jan Van Rijsselberge has confirmed and revealed several things about the show.
