- Real-Life Relative: Ariana Richards' younger sister Beth plays an extra in the movie.
- Screwed By The Studio: The film was only a modest hit at the box-office (having to compete with The Little Mermaid and All Dogs Go to Heaven, which opened the same weekend as Prancer) thanks to financier Cineplex Odeon Films dropping the distribution rights, leaving Orion Pictures to pick it up. Orion, financial issues notwithstanding, did not have the luxury of owning theaters, unlike Cineplex Odeon, which meant that the film was unable to keep as many theaters booked during the Holiday season.
- Sequel Gap: The Direct to Video sequel Prancer Returns was released 12 years after the 1989 movie. Prancer: A Christmas Tale was released even later in 2022, 21 years after Prancer Returns.
