Trivia / Nomad of Nowhere

Go To

  • Creative Differences: Georden Whitman had no control over his own show due to toxic office politics and workplace abuse, so he ended up leaving Rooster Teeth in June 2018 to pursue his illustration career. He's still credited as the creator and has expressed that he's proud of the show and how Jordan is handling it. That being said, he later bluntly said that he doesn't recognise the released product as the Nomad he wanted to make, and in 2022 condemned producers Jordan Cweirz, Gray Haddock and Maggie Tominey for effectively stealing the show out from under him.
  • Creator Backlash: Geordan Whitman has openly discussed how disappointed he was with the development of Nomad, citing in an October 2022 account that creative control was taken from him by Gray Haddock and Jordan Cweirz, with Cweirz throwing out many of the design goals that Whitman used to streamline production and meet deadlines and refusing to meet with Whitman to discuss plans for the story while Cweirz was struggling with the writing. While Whitman was open to maintaining his working relationship with Rooster Teeth in voicing a recurring character for Camp Camp, he was later told that he was recast, and later legally threatened with having his name stripped from Nomad's creator credits if he spoke out against Rooster Teeth in public. Even after Gray Haddock's departure due to the gen:LOCK mismanagement, Whitman is still bitter about the proceedings, referring to Rooster Teeth as "a giant clique of friends who cast others out who are beneath them."
  • Descended Creator: Eddy Rivas (who wrote most of the show's episodes) is also the voice of Santi, one of the Dandy Lions.
  • Quietly Cancelled: After the finale of the first season, series creator Georden Whitman left production company Rooster Teeth, citing "creative differences" and criticizing the company's alleged moral issues. Though Rooster Teeth initially began production on a second season, it was halted due to production of RWBY Volume 7 and has been on permanent hiatus ever since. Showrunner Jordan Cweirz stated in September 2020 that Nomad was one of several shows that the studio was seeking a production partner for, but this would be the last time the show was mentioned prior to Rooster Teeth's closure in 2024.
  • Screwed by the Network:
    • Right as Nomad was gaining steam and moving into its darker second half, the show got subjected to a four-month hiatus with no signs of it returning. Combined with little pre-release marketing and the show was kneecapped from the start. Whitman would later reveal that the hiatus was because the rest of the show simply wasn't ready to release due to poor management.
    • Some sources have alleged that Gray Haddock, Rooster Teeth's then-Head of Animation, forced Nomad of Nowhere to have an incredibly short pre-production cycle of two months to rush the show out. Haddock's passion project gen:LOCK was greenlit and started production around the same time as Nomad, but quickly went overbudget and needed more resources. Said resources were siphoned away from other shows, such as Nomad. Nomad's creator, Georden Whitman, was not given much creative control as a consequence.
    • As mentioned above, Whitman was also sabotaged internally as the show was stolen from him during pre-production by Jordan Cweirz and Gray Haddock, with both of them snubbing him during development and rejecting his ideas or offers to help with writing or directing.
  • Series Hiatus:
    • The series had a 4-month production break between the sixth and seventh episode.
    • The first season ended in October of 2018. While there was a Sequel Hook and promise of it returning, numerous issues with Rooster Teeth saw production of a second season grind to a halt indefinitely.
  • What Could Have Been: Elizabeth Maxwell voices Skout in the final show, but auditioned for both her and Toth, and assumed she was more likely to be cast as the latter.
