YMMV / Nomad of Nowhere

Go To

  • Crosses the Line Twice: Episode 5, where a bounty hunter just casually dumps a dead body into the Undertaker's hands with a nonchalant "friend's dead", like he's dropping off something he borrowed.
  • Growing the Beard: Episode 3, "Trouble on Purpose", which showcases the Nomad's resourcefulness in a fight against a bounty hunter.
    • Alternatively, Episode 6, "El Rey", where the audience receives a clearer picture of the show's Myth Arc thanks to an explanation about the history of Nowhere and the disappearance of magic at the hands of the titular immortal king.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Red Manuel, despite his behavior mentioned under Moral Event Horizon, managed to earn some sympathy points with everyone after Episode 12. He's disrespected by everyone, his own companions thought he died and didn't care, his mother constantly tells him he needs to do better, and his wife mocks him everytime Don Paragon or Toth beat him. When Skout points out the reason no one respects him because he's a Jerkass, he actually seems to realize how much of an asshole he's been.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: While Nomad got decent reviews, its underwhelming start, mixed with an awkward and overly-long Series Hiatus, did little to give the show a chance at forming a large fandom. As a result, it's mostly known for its part in the stories concerning poor work conditions and production troubles at Rooster Teeth that arose in 2019, with Whitman being the first to verify the rumors.
  • Strawman Has a Point: For all Red Manuel's bluster, he has a point about Toth being a subpar leader. She nearly got them all killed in the forest when she ordered its burning and was willing to abandon her troops to the fire (and the fire slowed the Nomad down because he stopped to save them rather than it being an obstacle). She interfered with the Twindleweed Brothers Traveling Circus' capture of the Nomad by distracting them, allowing the Nomad to escape. And she abandoned her mission to capture the Nomad when Skout got grievously injured despite abandoning her other men to die in a fire in the first episode. Arguably, she's in charge mainly because everyone else is less qualified than her, rather than her being an effective leader.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: Episode 5 was pretty intense. As one YouTube commentator noted:
TipTopMishMash:Last episode: The nomad visits a carnival that's in town. This episode: The nomad is essentially chained to a wall, almost gutted by a psychopath, and then almost gets shot twice by a shotgun. I can't tell if this show is either PG or R at this point
    • Episode 6 goes up a couple of notches when blood is shown for the first time - namely, when Skout is bleeding on the ground as well as the scene where one of the Dandy Lions is stabbed on screen.
  • The Woobie: Poor Nomad, always being persecuted for being magic. Even when he's trying to use his magic to help others. And because he is magic, the town who actually sees him in a positive light sends him away, due to not wanting to attract any bounty hunters.
